1956 Ford F100 Pickup

1956 Ford F100 Pickup

In recent years there has definitely been an uptick in older pickups becoming more and more fashionable. There is something attractive about those 1950 big grilles, curved hoods, and wide fenders. Plus, the entire work genre has “picked up” wildly in popularity due to special interest businesses using these vehicles as promotion. Certainly, eye-catching and reflecting the old guard's hard work ethic in their design, they are not just for work anymore.

This hay hauler turned green go getter is about as close to a resto-mod as you can get without actually putting it in the category of resto-mod. Looking much like the original a few changes were made over time and now we have a go-er and a show-er.

Exterior
All new fiberglass fenders, steel running boards and rockers meld with original Ford metal doors and cab. A large steel front grill in cream is in nice contrast to the overall green paint which is nice and deep. A shiny front straight bumper is now on and simplifies the front end. The bulbous hood with a large Ford cloisonné badge in front rolls gently back to the curved wrap around front glass. Nice round fenders and a running board frame the cab which has a small visor protruding from the front of the roof. The bed is rebuilt new, adorned with mahogany stained oak, and separated by shiny dividers. Nicely rolled top steel for the bed sides, and a clean F O R D badged tailgate is now closing up the back of the bed. The pristine badging and polished chromed bumpers, plus don't forget the red painted chrome capped and black bolted steel wheels all wrapped in 235/75R15's, and I'm truly moved, and I'm just standing here looking at this baby.

Interior
A swing of the metal green painted utilitarian doors which are nearly perfect, with their ribbed edged shiny handles and cranks, have a tan vinyl sill for extra arm comfort. New floors and rubber mats float a late model broadcloth tan bench which stretches from door to door. For the custom-made dash which now sports an aluminum arch for the gauge cluster is neatly installed. It has cream vintage looking gauges which have brass bezels and an embossed Ford logo in their bottoms. An adjustable rally style steering wheel with a large tan painted column protrudes from the floor in front of the dash. Headliner remains the original red painted metal and adds a touch of vintage to this interior.

Drivetrain
There is nothing better than looking at a superior finished engine, and the one is no exception in the form of a 351ci Windsor V8. A single 4-barrel Holley carb feeds fossils and air through an Edelbrock intake. Now a 4-speed manual Toploader transmission is on the back of the mill. Power moves to the rear wheels via a Ford 9” 4.11 geared rear. Also noted a 1 wire alternator, HEI distributor and new plugs.

Undercarriage
Nary any sign of rust, just clean blasted metal painted in pristine black. The suspension has been lowered 3 inches for that low and slow cruise. A new fuel cell has been fabricated from aluminum and installed under the mahogany stained under bed. Some newer floor pans are seen and new brakes and wheel cylinders as well as stainless steel lines are now in for the 4-wheel drum brakes. Headers feed spent gasses through Flowmaster mufflers all being nice and shiny.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up and off to the test track. I just love these old trucks and this one is as nice as they come. Great performance, smooth shifting, and bias free stopping. The heater is not hooked up, but all controls are in order.

Other than commenting it is just a great build, fabulous fit and finish, and all surfaces have been paid meticulous attention to, I say not much else because my jaw is on the floor, and my eyes wide open in amazement of this truck version of a resto-mod. The green go getter, shot from the starting line with a press of the gas pedal… She's a handful boys and girls!
