1996 Ford F150 Pickup 4x2

The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in America for decades, and the current success of the full-size pickup can be traced back to a crucial turning point in the early 1990s. The ninth-generation F-150, which was produced between 1992 and 1996, merged the basic toughness, simplicity, and reliability that had come to define Ford pickups to that point with the modern features and drivetrains that were about to transform the entire truck market.

For consignment, with its sleek looks, reliable drivetrain choice, and sheer ubiquity, it's easy to understand why this ninth-generation Ford F-150 is well on its way to becoming a modern classic. Increasingly, collectors are looking for old school trucks they can actually enjoy from behind the wheel, and perhaps even pitch in from time to time with hauling or towing duties. This is the last generation to show up before the Big Rig era of uber large pickup trucks which are more difficult to drive and more importantly, park! This rust free 1996 F-150 never looked so classic and good thanks to diligent maintenance performed over the year by our consignor.

Exterior
Utilizing the world's first wrap- around aero styled headlight on a truck, this proved wildly popular and is now classic. Throw in the rounded hood and bumper that wraps around the front fenders and we are now in the old school and this is the new cool. This truck is bathed in Toreador Red with a smaller band running around the bottom of the truck in a lighter gray. This gray encompasses the fiberglass aero molded step rails giving a nice look to the lower sections of this truck. Chrome trimmings hover just above the gray in the red field and wheel wells are surrounded by the bling as well. While we do note some paint fade, typical for the year, we see no rust. Badging is all correct and the rear tailgate opens up into a steel bed showing some scratches but nothing out of what would be considered normal use. A fiberglass bed topper is now on, and it is also painted in Toreador Red and a faded body colored matching fiberglass visor has been added to the front of the cab. Chromed bumpers and mirrors are looking good and shiny. 15-inch polished and drilled American Racing wheels are wrapped in raised white letter rubber.

Interior
Nice clean medium gray molded plastic and padded vinyl adorn the doors. There is a bit of surface rust showing on the door speakers and some color fade is seen on the door actuators. Black inserts make up the backdrop for the power window and lock rocker switches and both doors are adorned with wing windows...why aren't these still a thing? The herringbone pattern broadcloth bench seat, complete with built in headrests and a fold down armrest presents well with no tears but does show cigarette burns in the cloth on the driver's lower cushion. A small cup holder consolette is noted in front of the seat on the hump. A black and gray dash is nice and clean with plenty of white lettered analog gauges and a digital odometer. In the center of the dash, we see the heater/air conditioning dials and a JVC AM/FM/CD player neatly tucked into the factory radio location. The floors are flooded with lightly soiled gray carpeting and are protected by aftermarket black rubber mats. A gray felted headliner hangs tightly above.

Drivetrain
Lifting the large steel hood we see a slightly patinaed but clean engine bay, but within the gaggle of hoses and wiring, resides a 4.9 liter inline 6-cylinder engine. It has EFI, and a 4-speed automatic 4R70W transmission on the back with a 2.73 geared rear axle. As per our consignors notes a new PCM was installed in 2020 and in 2021 a new starter, ignition control module, cap, rotor, wires, idle air controller, MAF, oxygen sensors, and an oil change was performed in May of 2022.

Undercarriage
Some surface rust is seen throughout, but it's contained mostly to drivetrain and suspension parts. Floor pans and rockers underneath are clean. We note that the radiator support bracket was replaced in the recent past. Radius arm and coil spring suspension is in front, and leaf springs for the back. Power disc brakes are upfront, and power drums in the back.

Drive-Ability
A solid runner, plenty of power from the 6 cylinders, good braking and handling was on par with a truck of the era. We didn't note any issues on our drive but our consignor states that there are trouble codes stored in the PCM (PO171 and PO1874), both lean condition codes.

A classic old-style truck before the “Big Rig” truck design era took over. Good enough to drive on a daily basis, but with some minor troubleshooting and repairs will have it right back to snuff.
