1963 Ford Thunderbird Coupe

The Jet age is in full swing, the country is riding high on Beatle mania, towering beehive hair doo's, fur boots, and getting to the moon before the end of the decade. Unfortunately, we were riding low on the assignation of President Kennedy, Russia launching the first woman into space and racial equality concerns. To mirror these times, the Ford Motor Company put elements of the times into the design of the Thunderbird for 1963.

This repainted gold colored Landau version of the 1963 T-Bird retains most of its original equipment. The current consigner bought it from his good friend who had passed away and always wanted the car for its style and beauty. He purchased it, enjoyed it, and is now ready to allow someone else to enjoy it, which is why it finds its way to Classic Auto Mall.

Exterior
Repainted color match to original Medium Gold Metallic paint is showing in good condition on this car. A new Landau top is installed, and remainder of car, save for mechanical repairs, is original. Chrome presents in very good condition, as well as all exterior surfaces, including underside, frame, and suspension. Fit and finish is excellent and fender skirts have been added, with knockoff hubcaps.

Interior
Patina black leather bucket seats adorned with sewn in Thunderbird logos, walnut veneer, black and chrome trim complete the jet age styled interior. A curvaceous wrap around dash, convenient center console, air conditioning and chrome tube instrumentation, mimic the thruster style tail lights. Power windows, hydraulic windshield wipers, and power steering via a wood and chrome steering wheel, finish the drivers compartment. Headliner is blemish free, as well as interior carpeting, which is original.

Drivetrain
A 390ci V8 with newly installed valve covers to match the exterior is found under the hood. A Cruise-o-Matic MX automatic transmission, glides this car smoothly down the road, while utilizing minimum power for the engine. A 3.00:1 differential drives independent suspension rear wheels. Drum brakes are on all 4 wheels. A stainless-steel exhaust is seen from manifold to muffler, and the frame is sound with no visible areas of any repair.

This 1963 Ford Thunderbird is in very good condition and was enjoyed by the second owners friend (the consigner) for the last several years. He described the car as a very good driver and drove it to Classic Auto Mall from Baltimore, Maryland with no problem. This was the last year for this design of the Thunderbird, and the Landau option gives a nice contrast to the Metallic Gold exterior. Interior leather is beautifully broken in and the passengers are enveloped in a real jet age environment, as they are “rocketed” down the highway while in air-conditioned comfort and listening to the Beatles, “I Wanna Hold Your Hand.”
