1980 Porsche 911 SC

1980 Porsche 911 SC

Throughout its 55 years of existence, the Porsche 911 has accomplished many great feats. Probably the most iconic Porsche ever, the 911 has had many variants and forms over its lifetime. Originally named the '901' in 1963, Porsche had to rename it as the '911' as French automaker Peugeot said he had a trademark on “digit-zero-digit” named models. The Porsche 911 is only manufactured in the Stuttgart, Germany factory, making about 110 Porsche 911 models a day.

ACHTUNG!!!! If I had to pick a Porsche 911 year to have, I'd have to state this is THE YEAR! And it is here for consignment all looking good. One has to love the design, rounded protruding fenders with the single headlight, sloping rear side glass and the rounded sloping rear deck among many other things you can brag about when you have ownership of this car. Our consignor also provided a folder of receipts that includes the window sticker, certificate of origin, bill of sale, and all service records for various repairs made during the time of ownership. A well cared for car looking almost as good as new and having a recent clutch replacement, transmission being gone through, and a top end rebuild of the engine this 911 is ready to provide years of reliable service and smiles galore.

Exterior
Bathed in Chocolate Brown, and showing only a few minor inclusions and spot ins, (particularly on the trunk lid and the passengers door), this sporty 911 SC has all the right moves when it comes to the overall design. A sloping rounded hood which has some shades of the 356 era is flanked on either side by a single headlight with a body colored bezel and large round quarter panel tops that keep the shape of the bezel as they move towards the swept back windshield. Curved turn signals are wrapping the front quarters and flow nicely into the and black trimmed Chocolate Brown front bumper with fog lights just below. As we move rearward straight rust-free steel with nicely minded gaps make up the panels for the sides. Nicely preserved chrome trimmings surround the side glass and a factory sunroof is in the center front of the roof. A sloping rear window in the back seamlessly melts into the rear engine hinged covering. Wrap around taillights with PORSCHE in the center reflector and another body colored bumper with black bumperettes finish off this iconic shape. 911 polished and black painted Fuchs wheels are all around and looking good wrapped in deep treaded radial rubber. And for the Porsche aficionados these are without hearts.

Interior
All clad with brown smooth German leather, the buckets in front and small 2 plus 2 rear buckets present with smooth bolsters and ventilated tuck and roll inserts. The driver's seat is showing notable wear to the left bolster which is normal with age and use. Brown carpeting is flooding the floors well protected by black rubber mats and displays with a small console on the center hump to house the shifter and a storage cubby. The original 3 spoke well padded steering wheel fronts the brown padded dash with its black oval gauge cluster and multitude of round gauges. Heat and A/C slides are below to the right and dead center in the dash is an aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo. A perforated vinyl headliner is above and frames the factory retracting sunroof nicely. Brown door panels are nicely shaped with heavily padded vertical stitched areas that dance along with smooth brown and black sections and more brown carpet below. Sportlich Und Komfortabel!

Drivetrain
Crammed in back under the vented curved rear covering is a 3.0 liter flat 6-cylinder engine with a recent top end rebuild. It is very clean and nicely detailed, all looking good. It sports Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and has the gone through 5-speed manual transmission bolted to the back with a recently replaced clutch. A 3.875 final drive spins the rear tires. Sehr Gut!

Undercarriage
All good underneath with no rust and just a bit of patina from age on all surfaces. All wheel independent suspension, clean stock style exhaust and disc braking on all 4 corners too. Nahezu Perfektion!

Drive-Ability
A lovely example that performed flawlessly mechanically and acceleration was fab, meanwhile all functions worked exactly as designed. I love these German sports cars almost as much as the English 2 seaters so a few extra laps were taken around the test track just for good measure. Fahren, Das Spass Macht!

This is it, this writer's Holy Grail of 911's. Forget all these fancy iterations and modern tech stuffed current models, we're letting it all hang out here right out of 1980 when men were men and…well whatever… But you need to see this version in person, and you will be “smitten, mein kleiner Junge”!
