1958 John Deere 320S Tractor
Agricultural innovation in the 20th century was driven by the development of ever more powerful tractors, and the 1950s and 60s was something like a golden age. At the end of World War II, there was a lot of pent up demand. Tractor production reached its highest level in 1951 when there were 564,000 tractors manufactured in the U.S. alone.
Wearing serial number 325317 this 320s (s for standard height offering more crop height clearance) “Slant Wheel” is an original restored version of a RARE model in which only 317 models were produced. An excellent
fully functional version of a “Johnny Popper” deriving its namesake from the distinctive sound that resonates from the vertical exhaust stack.
This very complete original restored tractor is powered by a 2-cylinder 100ci engine that that produces 27hp. A PTO horse power of 27 is also noted in the specifications. 2- 4” x 4” bore and stroke pistons, have a compression ratio of 6.5:1 and reach a maximum rated RPM of 1,850. This power plant is liquid cooled, and an oil bath air cleaning system is noted.
A 4-speed forward and 1-speed reverse transmission offers a full range of power and speed options. The installed hitch is a full 3-point version, and a power take off shaft is present.
All tires appear in virtually new condition, with gauges and steering system fully functional.
