1934 International C30

1934 International C30

International trucks have been built and sold by the International Harvester Company, (renamed Navistar International in 1986), from 1909 until the present (2022). Originally marketed to farmers, the trucks were immediately successful and were sold to businesses in cities as well. Since then, International trucks have been sold worldwide and built or assembled in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Mexico, South Africa, the Soviet Union, and Turkey. International Harvester also built large numbers of military tactical vehicles between 1941 and 1961. The C series was a range of trucks introduced in 1934. They introduced a new all-steel cab. There were also mechanical advances during its production. All types of bodies were used, door-to-door milk delivery models were common. Cab-over-engine models were available. The C-series was replaced by the D Series in 1937.

For consignment, a cab off frame full restoration now showing in black and pale yellow. A great undercarriage, what is believed to be the original engine, and a recently resanded and finished bed all come together to form a not often seen International C30.

Exterior
A dual rear wheels with a larger axle, and dual leaf springs on back and a wide frame having a flat wood bed on top and growing proudly from that stake pockets are wood sides to contain whatever trophies you win and need to haul home. All of the wood making up the bed has recently been resanded and refinished giving it a wonderful luster and sheen. The all steel like new looking cab is bathed in pale yellow and has shiny handles and well minded gaps. Moving forward, the hood cowl covers the engine bay and gives a nice backdrop to the chrome thin bar grille. Nicely curved black painted fenders flank the radiator, house the headlights, and gracefully lower themselves to form a running board that ends at the back of the cab. All black 5 spoke steel center capped wheels in 20-inch form are on all 4 corners, and the rear being dual wheels, and all are wrapped in Firestone period correct rubber. The front bumper shows some dulling, and the chrome front radiator has the world-famous tri-diamond International logo from this period.

Interior
Inside simplicity and utilitarian abounds. Pale yellow covers the all steel door panels as well as the toe kick sides. Black vinyl covers the single bench which is fronted by the big steering wheel and metal dash with an embossed over gauge panel and round gauges within. Several aftermarket black faced white lettered round gauges are mounted within the original cluster. These include oil pressure and water temperature. Like new black wooden flooring covers the bottom and a long-stemmed black knob topped shifter reaches for the driver. Square pedals with integral labeling for the clutch and brake are noted as is a foot starter pedal.

Drivetrain
Underneath the louvered cowl hood is a 213ci inline 6-cylinder that our consignor states may be the original unit. It is fed by a 1bbl carburetor and makes an impressive for the day 79hp. The original transmission is on the back and it's a 4-speed non synchronized manual. Looking at the big rear pumpkin we note the International logo and within is an unknown gear ratio.

Undercarriage
Solid steel which has been blasted and repainted black with hints of the original red poking through is looking like new. Double leaf springs for the back and a single set of leaf springs for the front. Nice like new drum brakes are looking big and good! A single piped stock style exhaust is now on, and a shout to the bed underside, it has also been refinished and has been lined for the grain to accentuate to its maximum potential because it is oak.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and it runs great. Easy shifting and you can do it without double clutching on the upshift if you are gentle with the non-synchromesh box. No power steering so you'll have to pull on that big wheel in a tight spot! It was a chilly drive without a heater but if the haulers in the 30's could do it so can we.

A nicely restored C30 truck in flatbed stake body form. With the interior nicely appointed with the extra gauges and a powerful inline 6 cylinder you can stand out from the crowd with this tri diamond International.
