1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Coupe

1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Coupe

The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared in Chevrolet dealerships in September 1966 for the 1967 model year on a brand-new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform and was available as a 2-door, 2 plus 2 seat, hardtop (no "B" or center pillar) or convertible, with the choice of either a straight-six or V8 engine. The first-generation Camaro was built through the 1969 model year.

This fully restored, and jam packed with power 69 Camaro SS version is as beautiful as it is powerful. A shining example of a full on restoration undertaking and stuffing them into straight steel beautifully painted and all rust free. Hidden headlights, rally wheels, front and rear spoilers, and a faux vented hood all added to a big sum of muscle!

Exterior
The recipient of a painstaking frame off restoration with straight sheetmetal and proper alignment, this was all taken to bare metal, sprayed in the original code 52 Garnet Red then clear coated. Prior to the clear coating though, obligatory hockey stick stripes in black were painted on. All markers and lighting were replaced, all new body mounts and bushings, door hinges, locks, chrome bumpers and brite work. An octet of square chrome faux vents are on the hood gives the gentleman's muscle car look to the front of the car. The brightwork and badging as well as bumpers and window trimmings are all looking shiny and fab. Down low on the front we see a black chin spoiler and on the back a small rear spoiler attached to the trunk lid and just below is a pristine bumper framing the horizontal RS tail lights mounted within a blacked out tail panel. 15-inch deep dish rally wheels with caps are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in BF Goodrich raised white letter rubber.

Interior
Picking up nicely from the exterior black stripes, we see a sea of black nice condition vinyl. This is covering the door panels which are nearly showroom, and the buckets which are high back versions with large headrests attached. In the back is a black 2 plus 2 rear bench just as nice as the front buckets. In the center is a black molded vinyl console and it sports a wood insert which frames the Hurst floor shifter. Just in front of the shift lever is a quad of cascading gauges to monitor engine vitals and gives you a constant heads up reading of said numbers. The dash is beautiful, containing both a clock and the factory tachometer and has the original black rimmed wood applique and SS badged steering wheel in front. An aftermarket AM/FM radio is now installed just below the heater controls and has the same wood applique theme noted elsewhere. Black carpeting in nice condition is on the floors and above is a slightly saggy and wrinkled black vinyl headliner. A big shout out to the dash pad which has been autographed by both Richard and Kyle Petty.

Drivetrain
Under the vented hood is a consignor stated numbers matching 350ci V8. On top is a chrome air cleaner assembly and an Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor feeding air and fuel into a Winters foundry aluminum intake manifold. A non-original Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission is installed to send power back to a 10-bolt rear axle.

Undercarriage
All black and invasive rust free. Black undercoating covers the unibody, floors, rockers, and suspension. Only minor surface rust is present on untreated parts, but all is looking good. Dual exhaust runs to Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust that makes its way to the back of the machine. Independent coil springs are on front and on back are leaf springs, again just black paint and only surface rust. Power disc brakes are on front, and power drums for the rear. All looking great under here!

Drive-Ability
This car fired up with a roar, and performed much like the roar at the start. Out on the test track it had great launching with a firm solid clutch and unlimited acceleration. The Saginaw 4-speed shifted smoothly, and braking was solid. All functions were working swimmingly at the time of my drive and the ladies at the McDonalds drive-thru couldn't stop oogling the car, I even got a free small fry out of the deal.

All buttoned up mechanically, on the exterior, and the interior and the SS badging makes it stand out from the crowd. Beautiful color combos, all ready to roll in style and even add a bit of excitement to your right foot. Hurry into our hallowed halls, I have some spending cash and an itching for some more fries...just don't tell my cardiologist.
