1995 Chevrolet Impala SS
1995 Chevrolet Impala SS
The 1994 Impala SS went into production on February 14, 1994, at GM's plant in Arlington, TX, and was almost identical cosmetically to the concept car, the only noticeable change being the chromed bowtie logo on the grill vs a red logo on the concept. The car was, in essence, a high-performance version of the Caprice heavily based on the Caprice 9C1 police package. As such, it got much of the equipment formerly available only to law enforcement and government agencies. This included a sport-tuned suspension with reinforced shocks and springs, a high-capacity reverse-flow cooling system, four-wheel disc brakes, transmission cooler, dual exhaust, a higher-output electrical system, and other minor mechanical and electrical alterations. The Impala SS received body-colored trim, a unique single-bar grille with no hood ornament, and a rear deck spoiler. It was fitted with 17-inch brushed aluminum wheels with 17" all-season tires. Inside, the car came with a central console with cup holders on 1994 and 1995 models and a storage compartment, leather seats embroidered with the Impala SS logo, and a standard leather-wrapped steering wheel. For the 1994 model year, it was available only in black with a gray interior. Due to a shortage of the unique five-spoke aluminum wheels, only 6,303 cars were sold. However, the wheel shortage was remedied for the 1995 model year and 21,434 cars were sold.
An instant classic… just add gas, and we have a 2 owner 1995 Chevrolet Impala with 350 cubes of LT1 power under the hood, 18-inch snazzy Boyd's wheels, lots of consignor added touches. 4 doors to keep it all unassuming, and an aero design creates this suburban piece of go go driveway candy. No wonder law enforcement ordered these by the ton! Here comes the Popo...YIKES!
All rounded off and aero looking and all bathed in Dark Cherry Metallic. A 4-door sedan with a kick for the family who looks to travel in comfort, style and above all… speed. Beautiful prancing Impala badging throughout and a silver bowtie upfront in a custom grille, all paint and trimmings are in fine condition with well minded gaps and a small spoiler on the trunk lid to boot. Add on some changeable underbody lighting and lightly tinted windows and you'll be the belle of the ball. To make you stand out in the crowd 18" polished Boyd's wheels have been added and for peace of mind, a plethora of service records and clean Carfax are available. A shout out to the trunk which contains not only a polished factory wheel and full-sized spare tire but also 12 Volt Dave's sound system.
If you have a penchant for things slightly modified then slide into this interior and enjoy. Factory gray leather in clean condition abounds on this interior. Bucket seats in well preserved condition provide the view of what's to be seen from the canted forward windscreen. Dividing the buckets is a long smooth console with carbon fiber overlays on the forward section and a nice gray cloth armrest/console lid topper toward the rear. In the back is a long bench stretching from door to door and appears to have been sat in little or at all. The original dash, topped with a carpeted protector, is in front showing a customized gauge cluster with more carbon fiber overlay and a smooth polished aluminum panel. Aftermarket gauges flank the cluster down low and more gauges in round chrome trimmed pods occupy the driver's A-pillar. In the center, we see the heater and A/C controls as well as a Clarion AM/FM/CD stereo. A factory steering column fronts the dash and has an eye-catching full aluminum steering wheel with the Impala logo laser cut into the center. At first glance the door panels appear stock but after closer inspection we note carbon fiber overlays on both the control panel and door release, power lock, and power mirror inset. Slightly smudged but very nicely preserved light gray carpet below, and a perfect headliner in gray is floating above.
Opening the hood in our patented Classic Auto Mall photo booth and we are all but blinded by the mirror inserts installed on the many sections of the hood underside. A 350ci LT1 260hp detuned Corvette engine resides in this cleaner than clean engine bay and is fed by EFI and a K&N air induction kit. It is backed up by a 4L60E 4 speed automatic transmission. On the way back is a 10 bolt 3.08 geared Positraction rear axle. Eye candy abounds under the hood in the form of many polished covers, red hoses, red wiring covers, and even a bright red structure of bracing. Even the battery has a flamed polished cover. Attention to detail and polishing on the part of our consignor is almost indescribable.
Mostly LIKE NEW! Very slight surface rust but all wonderfully clean floor pans and suspension parts. Power disc ABS brakes, independent coil spring front suspension and a 4 link with coil springs is on the rear, a shout out to the red painted sway bars. Flowmaster exhaust is on and is in dire need of immediate muffler replacement as the driver's side is rotted out.
A slip inside the gray leather and after a quick fire up, this car exhibited rocket-like acceleration, great handling and can cruise at high speeds all day without even breaking a sweat. All functions worked well on our drive but as noted earlier, the mufflers need to be replaced immediately.
A real cruiser and eye catcher, and a fav of the police. I still hit the brakes when I see one of these coming. It's just a habit, and I'm usually at least 10mph over! A highly customized engine bay, mildly customized interior, and a killer stereo system all make for a ride that can blend into traffic or stand out to any car aficionado.
