Chrysler head honcho Lee Iacocca in the 1980s teamed up with Maserati's Alejandro de Tomaso to produce sporty coupes that combined the so-called best of both brands. The result: the Chrysler TC by Maserati. (TC is short for "Turbo Convertible. ") It made its debut at the 1986 Los Angeles auto show and rolled on the Q-platform.

For consignment the cohabitation between Chrysler and the Italians based on the LeBaron platform. This version sports the least powerful 3.0 V6 engine with EFi and puts out 141hp, and combined with the Ultradrive 4 speed automatic, it can handle an interstate or a curvy back road.

Exotic Red bathes this co-effort, and this one has a tan canvas convertible and a body matching porthole hardtop. This paint is all in excellent condition as the car has been garaged all its life. A nice tan canvas convertible top, moves up and down smoothly, and for windier driving conditions you can use the rarely used hardtop. A fiberglass red tonneau cover covers the top and its frame when the top is down. Heated side view mirrors hang off of straight steel for this luxury sports car, and it rolls on polished, woven mag wheels wrapped in black wall rubber.

Persimmon leather in near showroom condition covers the door panel inserts and wide luxurious front bucket seats as well as rear side panels. In back in lieu of a rear seat is a curved warm gold carpeted covered lid that lifts and offers up a storage area that has the space saver spare. This gold carpeting is also seen in the trunk and all the chairs float in it in the cabin. The warmth continues with the dash also in warm Persimmon hand stitched leather, molded plastic and sporting some wood burl accenting. Inserted in the dash center is a factory 10 speaker sound system which provides enough wattage to have good music even with the top down at speed. It can handle both CD's and cassettes. Adding more luxury are power seats, and a tilt steering wheel also wrapped in Persimmon leather. Toggles for the tonneau top and hardtop release are just behind the driver. Also seen in the doors are more hand stitched leather panels as well as some burl wood accenting for the toggles.

Under the hood and looking good is the Mitsubishi produced 3.0 liter V6 with EFI. It shows a little dust but is in all good unrestored condition. On back is an Ultradrive A604 4-speed automatic transmission pushing power to a 3.42 final drive axle.

Anytime I hear always garaged I'm skeptical, however one look underneath this collaboration and it has been garaged. Some patina and road splash but solid unibody construction. All wheel independent coil sprung suspension and power disc brakes are from the factory. A stock exhaust is showing nice and clean with no rust.

Slipping inside the Persimmon leather interior I turned the key and the 6 cylinders came to life. It delivers nice smooth power and cruises at highway speeds, and then some, with ease. It handled nicely and all functionality was working perfectly.

A collaboration between 3 automakers, those being Chrysler, Maserati, and Mitsubishi make this a true worldwide car and an interesting concept. Only 7,000 cars were sold during its run so it's somewhat rare. This beautiful 2 door combo all comes together to make a luxury sports car that is a convertible and comes with a hardtop. Year-round enjoyment is what it sounds like to me.
