1934 Ford Pickup Street Rod

Hot rods first appeared in the late 1930s in southern California, where people raced modified cars on dry lake beds northeast of Los Angeles under the rules of the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA), among other groups. This gained popularity after World War II, particularly in California, because many returning soldiers had received technical training. The first hot rods were old cars, (most often Fords, typically Model Ts, 1928–31 Model As, or 1932-34 Model Bs), modified to reduce weight. Engine swaps often involved fitting the Ford flathead V8 engine, (known as the "flatty") into a different car, which was common practice.

This very special Model A Ford pickup has gone through a complete frame off rebuild with modifications. The original 4-cylinder engine has been replaced with a 350ci V8, the interior completely redone and customized, drivetrain updated and a new bed with stainless steel seam strips. Beautiful red and painted ons flames.

Exterior
Pretty much original to the factory design of the Model A with a pickup body on the Model A chassis. A mix of fiberglass and steel have come together to reform the beautiful exterior in red with wider running boards and fenders. The bed has been redone in varnished oak, with stainless steel inserts. The sides of the bed are straight rust-free steel. An open fiberglass hood covers an otherwise open engine compartment, and fenders are also fiberglass. From the firewall through the steel doors yellow hand painted flames kick rearward to the backs of the doors. Up front, chrome encased headlights sit atop a chromed curved bar that stretches from fender to fender. The grille has also been painted red. Adding some bling on the corners are polished American Racing wheels wrapped in raised white letter Winner Winston G/T tires

Interior
Buckskin beige faux suede broadcloth covers the door panels and seats. The doors have a custom tuck and roll pattern and a plush armrest with shiny handles. Some wide red piping breaks up the panels as it swoops through the center of each door. Seats keep the pattern and material with buckskin tuck and roll inserts smooth bolsters and red piping to delineate the two panels. The dash is matching red steel, and has some padded inserts in the buckskin suede attached for the dash upper, and instrument cluster. White faced vintage looking Autometer gauges are inserted into the cluster panel. An adjustable rally steering wheel with a drilled chromed center and mahogany rim is courtesy Grant GT. Nice red edged carpeting covers the floors in the buckskin color and the side panels and other toe kick panels and headliner are also in the buckskin faux suede and look nice and tight.

Drivetrain
Gasoline fuels a V8 350ci mill with headers and feeds back to a TH350 3 speed automatic transmission. An Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor feeds fossils and air to this blinged out mill with Edelbrock badged valve covers. A Ford 9-inch rear axle with 3.23 gears is on back.

Undercarriage
Straight rust free black painted steel is under this body and it is looking very nicely restored. The front end has been dropped and shows as a Ford I beam style axle with 4 bar transverse leaf springs for the front suspension, and 4 bar with coil overs for the back. Glass pack style dual exhaust is on and exits at either side. Disc braking is on the front and drums for the rear.

Drive-Ability
All is very well with this rodded truck and it performed well on the test track. Nice acceleration, good solid bias free panic stopping, and nice handling for a '34 truck. Our consignor states that the gas gauge and speedo are inaccurate due to a tire size and rear axle change.

Throughout its career it has won over 60 awards and is definitely a go-er and a show-er. Nice red paint, the hand painted flames and mostly steel come together with a custom interior and a powerful 350ci crate engine to make the ultimate pickup truck. Add in the buckskin interior with the red piping and make room for trophies in the mantle.
