1972 Chevrolet Chevelle

1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

Like the Tri-Five Chevys that came before it, the Chevelle is one of those cars GM aced right out of the gate and continued to perfect. Eventually, the marque became one of the strongest brands in automotive history; and at one point, with a full list of body styles, options, trim grades, color combinations, and engines which ranged from mild to outrageous, literally embodied the 'custom built' nature that defines the muscle car era.

Offered for consignment is a 1972 Chevelle bathed in red and back stripes for extra racy looks. Also helping that a 350ci V8, and now a 2-speed automatic transmission. A nice black vinyl interior, snazzy 5 spoke mag wheels wrapped in BFG Radial T/A's all looking great!

Exterior
Bathed in red and adorned with black decal dual striping on the hood and trunk, paint is looking fab! The body has a few areas of rust bubbling on the doors, lower rockers and B pillars. All chrome is good with no dimpling or fading and this year got it right with the bumper inset round taillights. Grille is a nice black egg crate design and sports an SS badge in the center. Directly above is a cowl induction hood which runs back to soft-ray tinted glass with nice chromed surrounding trim. The windshield has a crack in it. A sports mirror is on the driver's side. Trunk gaps are a little off, and consignor states that despite new rubber seals the trunk is prone to leaking. 15 inch Super Sport mag wheels are wrapped by BFG raised white letter Radial T/A's

Interior
Black vinyl in true spit shine condition covers the Strato style buckets up front, and a large bench in the rear. Racing forward between the buckets is a snazzy clean console, with the dual vertical bar and single horizontal bar shift lever, which is right out of a fighter jet, (well, actually it's the style not the actual shift lever!), that is just too cool for school 70's styling. An AM/FM radio is present. Also, the full gamut SS cluster is in the extremely clean and beautiful dash and gauges. The original steering wheel fronts the dash and is also excellent. Carpets are clean and non faded black, and rubber floor mats emblazoned with embroidered Heartbeat of America floor mats protect them. Headliner is near perfect and that wraps up this showroom interior.

Drivetrain
Flipping the cowl induction hood, we are bowled over with the orange/red painted block and chromed valve coverings of the 350ci V8. This mill also presents a chrome air cleaner holder which tops a 4-barrel carburetor. A 2 speed Powerglide automatic transmission is on and interestingly the clutch pedal remains if you want to go back to the factory manual transmission. This pushes s power back to a massive 12 bolt posi traction 2.73 rear. Headers are on and shiny supple hoses, a no corrosion master cylinder, and clean engine bay are all here. And we're off!

Undercarriage
All clean and green underneath with virtually nonexistent surface rust, structurally sound steel frame, and a dual stainless exhaust with Turbo Mufflers. Power disc brakes are on front and power drums on the rear. Suspension front and rear were rebuilt recently, and include independent coil springs upfront and 4 link with coil springs in the rear. This is a smooth operator.

Drive-Ability
Our cracking decoder slash muscle car aficionado was the test driver and seemed like he loved every minute of it. This car ran flawlessly, he got it going pretty good without being unsafe or reckless, and thought the interior was “cherry”. He noted the clock does not work and the reverse lights did not light up. A great driver that left a smile on his face.

This is a hot commodity here at Classic Auto Mall and I say that because they rarely last very long gracing our former mall halls. Beautiful example of a shiny 350ci V8 runs like a deer. handles well, and OMG that futuristic shifter!! I have muscle car envy.
