1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Convertible

If you're not familiar with the 3000GT VR4, it's a car made by Mitsubishi from 1991-1999 as direct competition to the Toyota Supra Turbo, Nissan 300ZX Turbo, and Mazda RX-7. Its twin-turbo 6G72 3.0 liter V6 had 320 horsepower and 315 ft-lbs of torque, and was the only car out of the bunch to feature all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering. It was also unique in that it was only available with a manual transmission, gaining a gear from 5 to 6 halfway through its production cycle. It also came standard with digital climate control and active aero front and rear spoilers on earlier models. It was a GT car in every sense of the phrase.

For consignment, a car originally purchased by a man who owned hotels in NYC who had a fleet of cars he would loan out to VIP clients. The gentleman loved the car so much he shipped it to Paris where he drove it for a year while on vacation. The car eventually made its way back to the states and is now lighting up our classy corridors in its Caracas Red form.

Exterior
Sporting European curved lines, round dual molded in headlights, some rocker fairings and a rear spoiler, the main feature to this car is the retractable hardtop. It's the first car since 1959 to have this feature and at the time in 1995 it was a $20,000 option. Now it's worth every penny just to watch it magically disappear in 30 seconds at the touch of a button. There is a detector in the trunk in case something is in there the top will not go down until it is removed. Our consignor states there is a spare trunk pressure sensitive pad that will come with this car. All bathed in deep Caracas Red, flawless gaps and straight steel and neoprene bumpers offer up a very sporty look, top up or down. 17-inch polished wheels are on all 4 corners and wrapped in 2455/45R17's all around. There is another set of OEM wheels that will come with this car, and these are very difficult to find.

Interior
Charcoal black leather abounds for the interior. The door panels use some padded leather inserted into molded and sculpted plastic, all ergonomically designed and looking great and very clean. High back overpassed charcoal gray leather seats are floating in black carpeting. The leather has aged gracefully for these buckets and there is a 2 plus 2 bench in the rear. The original dash is looking good, and an OEM Infinity audio system that has AM/FM/Cassette and Aux for a 6 CD holder behind the back bench seat. There is an equalizer and a power antenna.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 3.0 liter V6 twin turbo engine that can produce 320hp! It has EFI and a 6-speed W6MG1 manual transmission. A 3.87 final drive ratio drives both the front and rear wheels. Note this car is equipped with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering.

Undercarriage
The undercarriage is clean and solid. Suspension is MacPherson struts for the front and coil springs with trailing arms for the back. When the car gets over 30mph the steering kicks in and it becomes very nimble.

Drive-Ability
This car fires right up and is raring to go! On the test track it has very nimble handling, and great acceleration. Braking is also solid. The volume control on the radio is a bit touchy, but it can also be controlled by the steering wheel.

An interesting sports car with the retractable hardtop, twin turbos and a leather interior. Not only is it comfortable but it's exhilarating!
