1931 Ford Model A Roadster

A roadster, (also spider, spyder), is an open two-seat car with emphasis on sporting appearance or character. Initially an American term for a two-seat car with no weather protection, usage has spread internationally and has evolved to include two-seat convertibles.

For consignment this 1931 roadster from the blue oval is enough to pull you out of any depression, great or not!

Exterior
Coffee with Cream, (Tan), panels showing in fair condition, make up this all steel car. Paint is showing some dulling on the coffee portions. Black covers the running boards and fenders and remains shiny. Chrome is fairly shiny, and covers the radiator surround, front “grille”, searchlights, and headlight casings. A temperature gauge radiator cap is atop the shiny surrounds and frames the cowled hood in tan directly behind it. A small door on either side allows access to this 30's style 2 seat sports car, if you will. Seen on the driver's door is peeling paint and some rust on the sills. Also etched glass wing windows are now installed. The canvas top in tan is in good condition but just needs a thorough cleaning. A mother-in-law seat is on the curved rear which also sports a wood luggage rack. Dual spare tires tuck into the fenders and have a chromed surround and are restored like the other 4 corners in straw colored wire wheels with wide white side walls.

Interior
A dark brown vinyl bench stretches from dark tan door panel to dark tan door panel. Nearly new looking it will accommodate 3 if needed but it will be tight. A super simple dash with chromed “mask style “instrument cluster, shows slight rust and aging, but is fully functional. An original steering wheel with spark advance lever and throttle/idle lever attached to the column, is fronting the tan painted metal dash. There are black painted accenting panels surrounding the instrument “mask” and these are showing some wear. The rumble seat, matching the interior bench, is accessible with a turn and pull of the winged chromed lever. Black rubber flooring is installed in the main cabin and the rumble seat.

Drivetrain
A flat 201ci 4-cylinder engine all operational and showing some surface rust sits in the engine bay, and is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission, and fed by a 1-barrel carburetor. The tail end of the driveline shows a rear axle with 3.78 gearing.

Undercarriage
Structural integrity, and a good frame reside in previously restored form underneath. Floor pans, and rockers, and running board supports are sturdy with surface rust. All is looking good including the transverse leaf springs on all 4 corners and the mechanical drums, which do stop but you'll need to plan ahead!

Drive-Ability
This car runs very rough. It misfires and has little to no power. Functions are working although some you need to work at them.

A classic roadster, a piece of Ford history, and all in need of some TLC. A paint refresh and an engine overhaul will go a long way, but it is priced right and after a brush up and refresh, you will have a classic that looks as good as your grandmother!
