1963 Chevrolet Corvette

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

1963 was the first year of the second generation (C2) Corvette. With its Sting Ray like styling with hidden headlights, vented hood, coves in the front quarter panel and split chromed bumpers on front and rear, it was quite a departure from the 1950's “Vettes or old.

For consignment, a 1963 Corvette Roadster Convertible. This car is virtually much like a new car as it utilized its original fiberglass shell and now has a 383ci Blueprint crate engine stroker installed, some snappy two tone bucket seats from a 1980's Corvette, and custom blue and white coverings for the dash to go with the exterior of the car.

Exterior
Duntov was in his radical mode when he designed this car. Sleek lines, thin pointed body panels, and split bumpers lead the way for this beautiful automobile. Hidden headlights and a stinger in the hood are cues that this is a 1963 version. All this fiberglass is bathed in beautiful blue paint with some white accenting painted on the hood to accentuate the stinger. In the front quarter is the Corvette cove but stylized to be dual rectangular openings. Wheel wells are flat on the top and their protrusions continue through the car at the midline with a V crease that runs to the back of the car creating the pointed rear. A stainless-steel side rocker panel is on in lieu of any side pipes, and in back the thin V shaped design houses dual round taillights framed with another pair of split bumpers below. Chrome edged ring openings are on the rear roll pan and shiny tail pipes protrude from these rings. On top is a very clean and tear free canvas convertible in white. 15-inch Torque Thrust satin spoke finished wheels are wrapped in good condition rubber. No cracks or crazing, just beautiful blue paint and shiny trimmings.

Interior
As with these gen 2 models the dash is now a dual arch version with a center “post” that runs to the hump in the floor. Within this post is a vertical mounted radio, a few knobs and pulls, and a large clock. This part is covered in blue smooth vinyl. The “eyebrow” dash top curves are covered in padded white leather all stitched and looking good, and a nice compliment to the seats and exterior. On the passenger's side is the glovebox, and on the driver's side is the cluster of round instrumentation. A black leather wrapped rally smaller steering wheel is topping a tilt column. In the center of the hump is the Hurst shifter. The high back buckets are from a 1980's Vette and are now covered in blue leather for the bolsters and white tuck and roll for the inserts. Seen are lots of extra rolls in the lumbar area. New blue carpeting is flooding the floors, and all aspects of this interior are like new! Also, the rear storage compartment is covered in blue carpeting. Door panels also use white tuck and roll and smooth blue surrounds.

Drivetrain
Now under the hood that musty old 327ci V8 oil burner has been replaced by a consignor stated Blueprint 383ci stroker V8. It has a 4-barrel Holley carburetor, and an Edelbrock intake manifold On back is a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission with a 3.70 rear axle gearing although this is contradictory to the actual stamping. Headers are on for a better exhale and the exhaust system is all stainless steel.

Undercarriage
All nice and clean looking like it was just driven off the showroom floor. New shocks, bushings and other parts as well as power disc brakes have been upgraded and added on. Independent coil springs are up front and on the back is a fully independent rear suspension with a frame anchored differential unit. There are also leaf springs transversely mounted.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter and smooth idle. Pressing the accelerator made this car come to life and on the test track it showed us nice acceleration, good handling and smooth shifting with an easy clutch. It is like driving a new 1963 Corvette with the 383ci stroker, new brakes, upgraded suspension, and a custom interior.

A fantastic build looking just like 1963, and indeed the body is! The convertible is very clean and moves gracefully to the down position where it stores in the rear of the car. The new engine hums along, and this car handles like it's on rails.
