2012 Mini Cooper Convertible

The car model was named the Mini because it was, well, small. John Cooper was a designer of Racing and Rally cars, who saw potential in using the Mini as a basis for Rally cars. Technically, only the tuned high-performance models designed by him were called Mini Cooper – in colloquial use, the name stuck for all Minis, though. If you've ever witnessed one of the original design Minis race they are fun to watch because they are like go carts in that they just slide around turns!

Exterior
This being a small car I'll keep it short! All bathed in black with some lighter satin charcoal gray carbon fiber pattern zig zag racing stripes bordered by white thin striping, which run the entire way through the center of the car. The front grille shines with a snappy grin and is flanked on either side by a single headlight. Fog lights are embedded in the neoprene lower bumper. Chromed mirrors on black stalks are adhered to either door, and with the gaps in this car they are well minded. A long black pristine convertible top covers the entire passenger compartment and folds smoothly away. A neat feature is it can fold slightly from the front and become a sunroof! On the back below the convertible's glass rear window is another neoprene bumper in black. Just above is a mini tailgate which when opened reveals a small cargo space. 17 inch 8 spoke alloy wheels are wrapped in low profile rubber. These edges have been just slightly curbed on the fronts.

Opening the doors a shiny egg shaped panel with a trio of circular buttons and window toggle housing along with a lower speaker, float in a sea of matte molded vinyl. As we slipped inside the designers were obsessed with a compass as all the instruments are circular and come in a flurry of different sizes throughout the dash, including a large central speedometer. This instrument has a few modes to play with. Under this dash in the center console are more rounds for the cup holders and shift lever bezel. Eyeball vents are also peppering the dash. Racy high back buckets have a center vertical broadcloth ribbed seat, then a surround of smooth broadcloth and then shiny leather bolsters. These are all stitched together in a rodded design (imagine that!). The rear seats are in the same motif and all in black or charcoal gray coloring. Black carpeting floods the floors.

Drivetrain
A 1.6 Liter Inline 4 cylinder with EFI and a 6-speed manual which throws power to a 3.14 axle.

Undercarriage
Clean with no rust just plenty of undercoating. Independent McPherson struts are upfront, and on the back, independent multi-link suspension provides the handling and ride. Power disc brakes are all around and an original exhaust is nice and clean with no rust.

Drive-Ability
Our consigner states and we agree that this car needs new tires. She fires right up though and gave us a fun wind in the hair with the top down ride. Great handling and snappy acceleration, a definite smile on your face kinda car to tool around in.

Black on black on black but it all has enough tones and textures to work together and look great. A few chips and dings, but a nice mini machine with a convertible top. Smooth power, and good mechanicals. Come on down, and we can do the opposite of supersize!
