1925 Chevrolet Superior K

The Chevrolet Superior model was introduced in 1923. After the C series, the Series K Superior Chevrolet was introduced in 1925 and was an improved version over the prior year. It brought with it many important updates and modifications. It still rode on a 103-inch wheelbase but was now powered by an improved power plant. The gearbox was updated with a new single dry plate clutch replacing the old cone clutch style. The ride and handling were vastly improved by the removal of quarter-elliptic rear springs with semi-elliptic springs. The brakes measured 11-inches in diameter and operated on the rear wheels. It was called Superior because that was how it was compared to old Henry's creations!

For consignment, still holding steady and superior, a 1925 K Chevrolet. Sporting its original wood spoked wheels, and engine which has gone through several upgrades and redos and flushes, it now runs efficiently. A new premium quality roof was recently put on replacing the original and the interior was also recently refurbished and recovered.

From its Moto-meter topped nickel-plated radiator surround to the long tub for the passengers and tall and thin curved back of the car, it sets itself apart from the fords by having an overall sleeker and taller design. All rust-free steel is bathed in blue and black curved fenders and a running board floats high above the original 21 inch wood spoked wheels which remain in excellent condition. Our example remains bumper-less as it came from the factory and a new black canvas top with a plastic rear window is covering the passenger compartment. Sealed beam headlights are with a black cowling and flank the shiny radiator. A simple straight black front windshield frame rises from the front cowl, and there is a shiny mirror on either side. A new spare tire hangs off the back of the car.

An exterior handle-less door can be easily opened by reaching inside, and when done reveals a black leather door panel covered with a stitched-on pouch. As we slip inside a like new curved back bench covered in black vinyl with a wide tuck and roll throughout the seat and back. Rubber floors are in front and back, and also in the back sitting higher than the front bench is a rear bench in the same form only this one has some side arms. Both these benches are in very nice, new condition. Access to the rear seat is through the back doors whereas without the handles it is difficult to tell it's even there! In back a brass grab bar is available for when the driver may get a bit out of hand on a rutted road. A full metal dash swoops across the front just below the windshield. In the center we see the old style gauge clusters in wonderfully shaped ovals and a center circular horizontal dial speedometer and odometer gauge. Fronting the dash is a very thick wood steering wheel which is beautifully stained.

Lifting the thin cowled hood reveals a beautiful sight of the completely rebuilt 174ci inline 4-cylinder. Also rebuilt and looking great are a starter, generator, new oil pump and a volt generator. This nice engine is fed by a 1-barrel carburetor and has a 3-speed manual transmission on back. Note the radiator is original and rare to have one survive. A very nice mechanical showing under this hood and completely restored engine bay.

Just a bit of road splatter, otherwise rust-free floor pans, body hangers and running boards. Steel framing is like new and painted black. Semi elliptic leaf springs smooth the ride, and mechanical drum brakes are on the rear only.

A neat restoration and definitely a fun car to drive. Very sound and it takes you back to the early days of motoring for sure. All working just great.

It looks the part and drives the part that is the one labeled Superior. This K model is very nicely restored, runs like a Swiss watch, (not unlike its founder Chevrolet from Switzerland). I'd have to say much nicer than the Fords of the day, but more expensive too.
