1970 Volkswagen Beetle

The big news for 1970 for the Volkswagen Beetle was a larger engine, which grew to 1585cc. Horsepower also rose, from 53 to 57 BHP. The engine lid received air-intake slots which had previously been seen on the convertible version. A four-speed manual gearbox was standard and hydraulic drum brakes could be found at all four corners. The turn signals in the front grew larger and were combined with the side marker lights. In the back, reflectors were placed on the bumper and tail lamp housings.
Inside, the head restraints became smaller and the glove box received a lock. The remote-control knobs for the warm air outlets were removed. Another new feature was a buzzer, which went off when the door was opened if the key was in the ignition.
Though the engine had grown, the Beetle was still known as a 1500.
Body styles on the Beetle continued to be a 2-door sedan, a sunroof sedan, and a convertible sedan. Pricing ranged from $1,840 for the 2-door sedan to $2,250 for the convertible.

Offered for sale is a 1970 Beetle with a ground up restoration. No expense was spared in bringing this Beetle back to its original state. Painted in its original Robin's Egg Blue with black vinyl interior, no detail has been overlooked in keeping to original cosmetic and mechanical specifications. The 1,600cc 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed transmission have been rebuilt and all panels are solid and free of rust. The car is nicely finished with Empi alloy wheels. The trunk and engine bay appear as new.
This VW is as close as can be to purchasing a new Beetle off the show room floor in 1970.
