1962 Ford F100 Pickup

1962 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck

pa·ti·na
/pəˈtēnə/
noun
A green or brown film on the surface of bronze or similar metals, produced by oxidation over a long period.
For consignment a rare find with a long history all working lifetime, and now showing in super smooth triple coated clear coat. A known portion of its life included a once tow truck that would pull lesser stuck 4x4's out of the California desert, then abandoned for its destiny for a time in the back of a far off garage somewhere on the west coast. Eventually discovered, and shipped to Pennsylvania where it began the restoration, but all the while trying to keep the patina and wonderful aging of this beauty Powerwagon-esque version of the rarely seen Ford F-100 4x4.

Exterior
Big and tall is this version and it's all in wonderful working condition with its original Cali black plate on front and back. Starting upfront, a nice grille is like new, nice and shiny and is fronted by a big wide black painted bumper with grille guards rising upward from the top of it. Within its bottom are some extra high power fog lights. Rising higher above the grille are the original steel panels and hood which show the underlying surface rust and runoff, now bathed in 6-8 coats of triple clear to “fill” imperfections and just a bit of the Academy Blue showing. The top 3 coats are matte finish to preserve the overall patina look. The small bump out fenders which have the patina and a few dents and dings, frame large 12.5/33R15 tires with deep tread which wrap nicely aged manual hub locking wheels. Moving rearward the tall cab is wonderfully aged and of course coated. All trimmings are fantastic FoMoCo and well preserved in their original shine. On the bed now resides a large tube roll bar with rear descending supports. It is topped with vintage KC day lighters. On the back is the gate and a wonderfully patina rear bumper, all 6-8 clear coated. The bed is painted with black liner paint, and there is a fuel tank residing in its very front.

Interior
The utilitarian “used” look continues inside for the metal door panels with their patina and clear coat, an electrical tape wrapped armrest and some shiny handles. We see the original metal dash in two tone blue and white face with some round gauges behind the big original steering wheel. A like new smooth shiny blue vinyl bench stretches across the cab, and down low is a rust painted metal floor. A newer AM/FM/cassette now graces the center dash as well as a fabricated panel below which houses water and oil pressure gauges along with 2 toggles. The headliner like the rest of the truck remains full metal jacket with some surface rust and plenty of personality.

Drivetrain
Climbing a ladder to view the now massive blue painted 390ci V8. For extra oomph it has been bored over .030, and includes TRW forged flat top pistons, and sports a Summit Racing truck cam. There is a 4-barrel carburetor on top courtesy a 1976 F-250 which goes through an aluminum intake and consigner states all this has less than 700 total miles since its rebuild. Exhaling is done through ceramic coated headers, and a Flowmaster exhaust system. The transmission is a factory Borg Warner true 4-speed with no Granny 1st gear. Both axles are Dana 3.50 Locker versions.

Undercarriage
A restored and epoxy painted frame is the structural underpinning, and no rust is showing here. HD shocks and leaf springs are the rear and front ride providers and drum brakes are the stoppers. Lovely!

Drive-Ability
Every time I get behind the wheel, I have a sense of power on these big 4x4's. This one gives me even more because of its looks which took 40 years to achieve. It runs great, massive power and a sense that you can pull anything out of trouble in retro style. All functions are working strongly.

With a long time to make it look, and fully restored and not looking like a trailer queen, but more like the ugly, (but beautifully attractive), stepsister. This rare classic is all buttoned up for you to climb aboard the turn the key and enjoy the ride and the looks you'll get with this great job to keep it original classic 4x4.
