1969 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

What happened in 1969? Major News Stories include The Beatles' last public performance, on the roof of Apple Records, first Concorde test flight is conducted In France, Boeing 747 jumbo jet makes its debut, Woodstock attracts more than 350,000 rock-n-roll fans, members of a cult led by Charles Manson murder five people, Chappaquiddick affair Senator Edward Kennedy, PBS Established, the first man is landed on the moon on the Apollo 11 mission by the United States and Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon.

For consignment a blast, (literally), from the past in the form of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. This one has been upgraded from its original 6-cylinder grocery getter persona to that of a fire breathing V8. With 454ci, a 4-speed manual transmission, power brakes, power steering and that cool as cool can be cowl induction hood, this car is now all business. That said, here we go!

Exterior
Maroon covers the straight steel slabs on this car, which are all minding their gaps very well and it's really nicely buffed and has a glass like presentation with only a few faults upon close inspection. Also, adorning the exterior are hockey stick style stripes that start at the fenders and run down the length of the side ending toward the rear of the doors. No rust is seen on either front or rear fenders and these frame 17" & 18" Ridler wheels which are wrapped in 215/60R17 and 245/50R18 blackwall rubber. All chrome on bumpers, brite-work, and correct badging is excellent and mirror-like. A small front chin spoiler hangs down low while a duck tail rear spoiler sits proudly atop the straight smooth trunk lid.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we can see well preserved vinyl door panels, and seats in the form of high back headrest buckets in front and a 2 plus 2 rear bench. Racing up the center is a pristine center console which houses the Hurst shifter, and a bevy of gauges hanging below the dash. Speaking of the dash, all original and fairly clean and fronted by a wood rimmed 3 spoke steering wheel. A new carpet and headliner all present as showroom, and a shout out to the trunk too as it has a snazzy speckle painted finish.

Drivetrain
Under the hood lies a consignor-stated 454ci Chevrolet big block V8. All hoses are nice and supple, and everything else is gleaming and screaming for attention under this hood. This mill is bathed in Chevrolet orangish red and is topped with shiny chrome valve covers. On the top is an Edelbrock aluminum intake with a Holley 750cfm carburetor feeding the fuel. Air is filtered by a K&N style air cleaner assembly. On the back is a Muncie 4 speed transmission which sends power back to a 12-bolt 4.10 geared Positraction rear axle.

Undercarriage
All's well underneath which has been completely restored and is rust free. Black floor pans match the black suspension components and are showing only minor road dirt. Sturdy frame, and a stainless steel Magnaflow exhaust snakes by all after being fed its copious dose of spent fossils. Independent coil spring suspension on front and leaf springs on the rear all provide the ride. Drum brakes are on back and discs upfront, and as mentioned are power assisted.

Drivability
I let my cohort and muscle car aficionado take the wheel for this drive and I rode along. This beautiful example fired right up, ran very nicely and handled all the challenges of our test track and critical eye for anything not working. We found nothing wrong and enjoyed our ride, acceleration is limitless, handling is good and braking adequate thanks to the power disc and drums.

A beautiful restoration and restification seen here in the form of a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. What was once a pedestrian Olympic Gold 6-cylinder is now a fire breathing big block, 4-speed manual, Positraction rear axle, tire shredding machine. Proudly showing in our South Mallway, you'd better hurry up to get this one, big block muscle never lasts long here at the Classic Auto Mall.
