2001 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

2001 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

The Corvette crossed flag logo originally started out by using an American Flag, crossed with a checkered flag. Federal law prohibits the use of the flag in any advertising, so they had to come up with another flag. Chevrolet being of French origin, they decided to use the French symbol for peace, the Fleur-de-lis, with the checkered flag. Over the years it has gone through many iterations, but the basic principles still exist.

For consignment a C5 Corvette with an LS-1 engine in good condition. A mere 2 owner car, always garaged, low miles (14,076), and it's a convertible!

Exterior
Bathed in Speedway White, all panels are straight and true, and the gaps are good, as expected for fiberglass. There is a nicely preserved black canvas convertible top which moves up and down flawlessly. We note a much more rounded design, almost bulbous for this generation, with indented side panels with an air intake in the front quarters. Shades of the Corvette cove, standard polished aluminum wheels are all around, and 4 sweet sounding chromed exhaust pipes exit center stage in the rear. Hidden headlights, a squared off rear roll pan is housing the oval quad of taillights.

Interior
Utilizing yards of Torch Red leather, curvaceous buckets are form fitted to the driver and passenger, and sit in front of a black dash which is showing the same undulating curvature, all the while housing key analog, but backlit instrumentation. A digital odometer reads 14,076 plus miles, putting this car in low mileage clocked territory. Other features seen are an AM/FM/CD player radio, power windows, power locks, climate control, an active handling mode button, and a heads-up display. All deeply embedded within sculpted black plastic and vinyl artfully molded to create stunning contrast to the red leather and carpeting also in red flooding the floors. In back a small storage area is behind the buckets and the tonneau cover which is also a throwback to the early 1960's and generation 2 where a vertical fiberglass bar is connecting the tonneau to the top of the center console. Noted seats show some minor creasing typical of light usage on quality leather.

Drivetrain
An electronic fuel injected 5.7 Liter LS-1 V8 is attached to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission. It is fed by electronic fuel injection and has a 2.73 limited slip rear axle. The low mileage shows in this engine bay as it is nearly showroom condition.

Undercarriage
I could use the word showroom here and for an undercarriage even with low miles one sees some signs of usage, however this undercarriage is pristine. Independent suspension and power disc brakes are seen all around.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter and great performer on the test track, it handles like it's on rails, has smooth seemingly limitless acceleration, and quick stopping which is totally bias free so the brakes on this car are adjusted perfectly. All functionality was working splendidly during my drive.

A low mileage well cared for and maintained C5 that runs like a clock is in overall very nice condition and performs as expected. With 350hp for 2001, the Corvette was making a comeback from the emissions regulation years, and this one is a shining Speedway White and red accented example. Imagine this baby in your garage or on a winding road, top down tickling the accelerator with your right foot, and feeling the G forces, all the while a smile on your face just like it was on mine during the test drive… Hmmmmm, maybe it needs to be in my driveway!
