1926 Chevrolet Superior Touring Sedan

NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY

By 1926, Chevrolet had begun to seriously challenge the dominance of the Ford Model T. The Chevrolet Superior series was more mechanically sophisticated, and buyers had a choice of a variety of colors. Chevrolet introduced the Superior, series V in mid-1926 and was marketed into the first part of the 1927 sales year. Powering these cars was an overhead valve four-cylinder engine with cam operated oil pump, belt-driven generator, three-speed floor-mounted manual transmission, semi-floating rear axle and external contracting rear brakes. Total production of 1926 Chevrolets reached 486,366 units.

For consignment a barn find condition 1926 Chevrolet Superior Model V- 4 door touring sedan. All surfaces of this car have faded with plenty of paint rub off and slight surface rusted paint, a dulled front radiator surround, and replacement wooden floorboards. A canvas top is installed and has some cracking along with aging going on. Very simple box style construction with no real invasive rust seen on the body. An unrestored 4-cylinder engine resides under the cowled hood.

Exterior
With a bit simpler line than the Fords, Chevrolet body styles tended to be a bit more utilitarian and boxy. Similar carriage look with a climb up onto the running board for entry. As you step in, you see curved fenders with running boards framing the 30-inch wood spoked wheels. On the passenger side is a scissor metal hold down to keep smaller items stored in the running board and not fall off. The metal is covered in seafoam green which shows plenty of rub off, chipping and scratching, but remains mostly rust free. A canvas top which is not retractable is above and presents nicely with no rips or tears. Wide open for the passenger compartment with no protecting side curtains or windows to be seen. 2 flat bar curved bumpers are on front and rear, with the rear being split in the center to accommodate the spare tire.

Interior
Black tuck and roll leather covers the 2 benches which stretch from door to door in front and in back. The leather is cracked and showing some wear particularly in the seams where we can note some shedding white piping. A simple body matching seafoam green metal dash is up front, and the gauges and knobs are reserved for the center of this dash, placed within oval surrounds. An original metal spoked wood rimmed steering wheel is fronting this dash. Floors are a combination of wood and metal plates.

Drivetrain
Within an aged engine bay is a 4-cylinder power plant. It is missing the top covering and springs for the valves are exposed and the engine does not run. It does have a 1-barrel carburetor feeding it, and a 3-speed manual transmission on back.

Undercarriage
Underneath a fine coating of surface rust covers all surfaces. Save for a shiny new exhaust all is surface rusted. Running boards are actual boards as seen from underneath. Wood and steel make up the underside of the floorpans. Leaf springs for all 4 corners, and mechanical drums are on the rear only.

A barn find in reasonably good condition ready for a redux and a helping hand to bring it back to its original glory. One can dream, can't they?!
