1927 Buick Model 28 Coupe

For consignment from the 115 series the model 28 which is the 5 passenger 2 door coupe. This car is in barn find condition with some actual shine on the exterior 2 toned paint, slight surface rust, and an enclosed glass passenger compartment. She does not run but is a solid specimen ready to take on the rigors of a restoration and be brought back to its fulfilling life.

Exterior
Navy blue covers the fairly straight steel panels of the body of this car. A 2-door example there are plenty of areas of paint peeling, patina and dulling and pitting, but overall, the body is free of rust. On top a canvas top covers the roof and the C pillars and rear window surround are straight steel painted in black. Fenders are gently curved to frame the 21-inch wooden spoked wheels also in black. These fenders roll up and down and are met in the middle of the car in a running board which is covered in rubber grip material and has a chromed trim piece on its edge. A spare tire hangs in the middle of the trunk just between a dual flat chromed bar curved bumper. Upfront we see a patina and slightly surface rusted radiator surround, and this is flanked by 2 heavy looking front headlights. Another 2 flat bar chromed curved bumper frames the bottom of this scene.

Interior
Time has taken its toll on this interior with the doors bearing their mechanicals due to no door panels covering these mechanicals. We move inside where the spring and mesh forms of the seats remain upfront. For the backs some of the mohair fabric remains with dry rotted padding underneath on the backs of the front buckets. In back is a tufted tuck and roll overstuffed bench also in blue mohair, unfortunately it is disintegrating, has some holes and will need some TLC. The headliner is sagging and also in mohair. Below is a wood plank floor and floating above is the original blue painted metal dash with some shiny bezels and a few clusters of knobs and levers, one missing completely. The original steering wheel with wood rim and 4 metal spokes is fronting this dash which appears it was left in the throws of a restoration for the dash front.

Drivetrain
Under the hood in an earlier restored engine bay full of some surface rust and plenty of patina is a 274ci inline 6-cylinder engine. This is topped with a Marvel T4 1bbl carburetor. A 3-speed manual transmission is on back.

Undercarriage
Some surface rust is noted although very light. Most of the floorpans, rockers, running boards, body hangers and frame are solid and painted black. An area where the passenger running board meets the bodywork underneath is showing slight invasive rust at that seam. Leaf springs for the front and a 4 link suspension is on back along with mechanical drum brakes all around.

A nice Buick Model 28 awaiting the capable hands of prospective restorer with some vision, and a soft spot for big Buicks of yore.
