1986 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup

Dodge had technically been producing trucks since 1917, but their 1981 pickups were the first ones to sport the Ram name. In order to signify this, Dodge slapped a ram's head hood ornament on the trucks after Lee Iacocca, Chrysler's President and CEO at the time, decided it was a good mascot.

For consignment a powerful Dodge Ram 3500 360ci V8 pickup. This example is better than barn find condition due to its running, driving, and stopping capabilities, however it is not without its work needed on the exterior. Some rust is noted throughout, and paint has seen better days.

Exterior
Original steel panels adorn this truck, and these have been painted red. The paint is fading, and several areas of invasive rust concern are noted throughout. In particular, around wheel wells, on doors, rockers, and just above drip moldings on the roof. A fairly substantial dent is in the side of the passenger's bed near the passenger door, and the door is slightly involved as well. More invasive rust is nearby too. In front the grille shows some cracking around the plastic headlight surround and grille molded plastic. The bed has a black plastic ribbed liner which is in good condition, with just a bit of green molding growing on the passenger's side. Standard white painted steel wheels are capped by Dodge dog dish wheel covers.

Interior
Opening up to the inside we make our way past heavily scratched and soiled molded plastic door panels. The plastic is very faded and has plenty of scratches and dirt inclusions. Turning our attention to the bench seat it is covered in red vinyl and shows wear through on the driver's side. Upfront the dash is dirty and faded and has the gauges in their panel, but no other panels can be seen on this dash, leaving it open to the imagination. The remainder of the dash has red molded vinyl which is also dirty and scratched. Floors are rubber covered, and somewhat dirty.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 360ci V8 not known if it is original to this truck. It has a single 4-barrel carburetor on top, and an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission on back with a Dana 60 rear. Overall, there is a coating of dust and surface rusting under this hood.

Undercarriage
Some surface rust is heavy on certain surfaces with some invasive rust showing on the driver's toe kick area. Rockers remain solid despite the exterior facing invasive rust outside. Independent coil springs and leaf springs give this truck stability under load, and power disc brakes are reserved for the front, and power drums for the rear.

Drive-Ability
After a quick startup and warm up, this truck did well on our test track. Smooth smoke free acceleration, good bias free braking, and despite the interior panels of the dash missing, functionality is still there for the wipers, lights etc.

A little rough around the exterior edges with dents, dings and some rust, but structurally sound, runs, drives and stops as it should. A great camp or cabin truck, or use it on the farm to handle all those chores with Ram toughness and reliability, even if it does not look perfect.
