1972 Buick Skylark Coupe

Buick is a part of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors. It was founded by David Dunbar Buick in 1903. The Buick Skylark was first introduced to the consumer market in 1953. It was introduced as a passenger car and was produced in 8 production runs over the years. The name of the car was inspired by the bird species named Skylark.

For consignment, an early 70's hunk of Detroit iron in the form of a 1972 Buick Skylark. Taking a cue from the Olds 442's of this time, this car has a very similar body styling. Our version of the Skylark has a rebuilt drive train to include the motor, transmission and rear axle, and new suspension. It's a 350/350 version, bathed in green, and presents very nicely with no exterior rust seen.

Exterior
We have entered the coke bottle design era, and this car uses that concept to form its exterior. A 2 door coupe with a long hood, gracefully descending rear glass and deck, we are offering up some full size muscle. The front grille and dual headlights are framed with plenty of chrome for the frump of the hood trimming, to the bumper below, and all is looking very nice and in shiny condition. Wheel well trimmings and a stainless rocker trimming complete with some red stripes painted within its confines adorns the lower border of this car on the sides. Also, a chrome surrounded black vinyl trim spear is showing off in the mid section of this car highlighting the doors and just a bit of the rear quarter. Badging is all correct and nicely preserved and for the back of the car a wide stance showing the tail lighting within the bumper curving around the corners. Paint is a Hunter Green respray, and there are very few faults in this deep green field. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels are on all 4 corners as well as the spare in the trunk. Very clean car.

Interior
Opening the wide doors, we see stitched square panel uppers in black smooth vinyl, and just below a wood panel to house the armrest and window crank. Also, south of the chrome strip of delineation and this wood panel, is a section of black carpeting. Turning our attention to the inside we see showroom cleanliness, and restoration of top quality with meticulous attention to detail. Smooth black vinyl covers the front split back bench with small topping headrests and a rear full bench which is absolutely like new. The dash and instrumentation is just gleaming with pride in square bezels framing black faced round instruments, all fronting the original steering wheel. I looked hard and I don't even see a speck of dust on this dash! Black carpeting floods the floors under this clean and pristine dash as well as the showroom condition benches. Above an excellent tight headliner, also in black hovers above all this early 1970's design.

Drivetrain
Excuse me while I lay out my lunch on this engine, it is that clean I can literally eat off of it. All correct in the form of a 350ci V8 topped with a single 4-barrel carburetor. Intake manifold is very clean and sits between 2 red painted valve coverings and the original air cleaner covering with correct stickers. On back a TH350 3-speed automatic pushes power rearward to the 10-bolt 3.73 posi rear axle. Headers are now installed on this beauty of a mill, and plenty of supple hoses and wires are all over this bay.

Undercarriage
We can capture some of the new suspension which contrasts to the original floor pans and rockers which have a slight coating of surface rust. The suspension does not have the surface rust. It does show up as independent coil springs in front and a 4 link with coil springs for the rear. Power disc brakes in front, power steering and a dual exhaust are all clean and green…well black actually! During the restoration, the posi unit was installed and the rear axle now sports boxed lower control arms.

Drive-Ability
With such a nice example we could not wait to go for a ride, (one of the perks here at the Auto Mall), and this car did not disappoint. It started right up and ran like a champ on the test track. 4 barrels were feeding it copious amounts of fuel and air and it has plenty of spunk, good handling, and smooth bias free braking. All functions save for the horn were in working order.

A near perfect example of the 1972 Buick Skylark. Built to compete with the muscle car market but adding in the class of a Buick. A nice design for the exterior, and showroom quality interior, and fully restored and detailed engine bay and undercarriage, we have virtually a new car sitting in our main showroom, ready to take flight to your driveway.
