2003 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

The 2003 model Corvette marked one of the brand's biggest and most historic milestones...the 50th Anniversary of the first Corvette produced in 1953. There was a specific 50th Anniversary color scheme, (not black) but all colors were specially-marked for the milestone year. The 2003 Z06 is a limited edition model with Corvette's biggest engine package to date, rated at 350ci and 405hp. Of the more than 35,400 cars produced during the 2003 model year, only 8,635 were Z06 models. The '03 Z06 is capable of 0-60 mph in 4 seconds...0-100 mph in 10 seconds... and 0-100 mph-0 in 14.01 seconds. Vettes are also known for their brakes! By the end of the 2003 model run, a total of 1,335,302 Corvettes had been built in the first 50 years. By-year total numbers peaked in 1979 at 53,807.

Exterior
Nicely worked fenders, sides and top panels work together to form this model, which does some harkening back to 50 years ago in its design. Mainly with the “Corvette Cove” in the front quarter eventually moving to the rear and dying into the doors. Some venting is there as well and is highlighted by horizontal 3 dimensional ribs at the opening of the cove. ACI provides the custom fiberglass that has now been installed in this car which includes a high rise hood, ground effects side skirts, and a front and rear spoiler. This is all bathed in menacing black and is miles deep for the shine and finish. Hidden headlights, a swept back windscreen and a removable blue tint roof panel keep the look flowing just right. Just below the curved rear greenhouse glass the round taillights have gone oval, have louvers on them, and the quad of shiny exhaust exits in the center of the rear roll pan. 17 inch for the front and 18 inch for the back 5 spoke polished wheels are wrapped by less than 1,500 mile clocked tires.

Interior
Plenty of wow factor and an interior to brighten your black exterior day, we see beautifully curved door panels with plenty of molded plastic and some carbon fiber surrounding the power button features on the doors. Moving inside, Corvette America seat coverings, in red insert and black bolsters await your presence, and look forward to having your person pushed back into them when pressing the accelerator! A red padded console door with a stitched winged badge in its center, a red Hurst shifter, and brake lever boot. Molded black covers the hump. A carbon fiber dash kit replaces the original and saves some extra weight. Here we see a heads-up display, headlight sentinel, telescoping steering column, and a remote 12 CD changer at your beck and call. Black carpeting, nice and clean is flooding the floors, however in back more red is seen for this space's covering.

Drivetrain
A lift of the feather light hood, and we see a 5.7 liter LS1 V8 mill with EFI which sports a K&N cold air & mass airflow sensor to feed the engine exactly the amount it needs. On back a T56 6-speed manual transmission is seen, along with 3.42 gears for the limited slip axle. This car offers magnetic ride control and is showing with a Borla exhaust now installed.

Undercarriage
As expected, the undercarriage of this car is solid as a rock. Plenty of cast aluminum suspension parts, stainless steel exhaust and solid aluminum floor pans as well as nary a drip or road dirt splatter seen. Suspension is ALS, (short long arm), double wishbone cast aluminum upper and lower control arms, transverse mounted composite spring and a mono-tube shock absorber. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners. A marvel of engineering and ground effects usage.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, wonderful accelerator, excellent handling, and quick braking as well as all function working as they should be which leads to a fun ride. I took extra laps just to be sure all was OK!...and it was.

A 2003 version with the added on ACI custom fiberglass on the exterior, and the Corvette America red and black coverings for the interior, along with all the other factory added on goodies, and this is all buttoned up to go fast, and carve curvy back roads kinda car.
