1987 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

Chevrolet has been pumping out Corvettes for 66 years, building about 1.5 million of them since 1953. That makes the 'Vette one of the most popular sports cars of all time. First- and second-generation Corvettes were one of the first true collectible cars of the modern era and collecting Corvettes remains a global phenomenon. More than just another two-seat sports car, the Vette is an American icon. There's a good reason it's often referred to as America's sports car.

For consignment, we offer the 1987 version of America's sports car. An upgraded engine with the bottom end has been reworked by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and is a 383ci stroker all according to the consignor (paperwork for the build is not included). The top end was reworked by our consigner. A press of the gas pedal, and it will be confirmed that it is not fooling around on the power curve! Only 51K original miles, it sports its original paint and has just passed new inspection in January of 2021.

Exterior
All the fiberglass is bathed in beautiful original Copper Metallic, and the surfaces are retaining their spit shine from the factory. A black trim winds its way around the exterior at the mid-section and adds some contrast to the miles of Copper Metallic. Also, a black smoked glass targa top which is removable is installed as well as all black window surrounds. On back the greenhouse glass curves its way to the small rear deck with the vertical rear roll pan round taillights, and dual exhaust tips peeking out from either side underneath. Turbine styled Corvette wheels are on all 4 corners.

Interior
Graphite gray in a mixture of molded vinyl and carpeting for the door panels welcome you into this sports car. Inside wonderful silver leather seats shine like 2 crazy diamonds against the black dash and steering wheel, and center console. These buckets show some slight folds but are clean and in overall great condition. The square and rectangle design all digital dash blasts out the vitals for this extra powered engine. The central dash produces various multi-function buttons to change displays of the vitals at the flip of a toggle. An AM/FM/Cassette player from the factory is installed and temp sliders are just below. Nice clean gray carpeting is flooding all the floor surfaces including the rear storage area and presents all clean.

Drivetrain
Our decoder and test driver extra-ordinaire detected some additional performance on his test drive, and indeed he is correct. The consigner states that it was represented to him that the bottom end of this engine was reworked by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, and the top end needed to be re assembled, and is how it came into his possession. It is a 383ci V8 stroker. It is equipped with a Lingenfelter throttle body, Hooker Competition Headers, and an aftermarket performance cam has been installed. Also, he indicates the oil pressure runs strong at around 60lbs, so he believes that a HD aftermarket oil pump to keep everything lubed properly. A step on the throttle and all this extra work can be easily confirmed with a big performance increase. Peering at the engine bay and it is just beautifully clean, and all buttoned up. A Doug Nash 4+3 manual transmission is on the back and sends power to a 3.07 cogged rear axle.

Undercarriage
Underneath shows up with no rust and just slight road dirt. Corvette performance suspension is on right out of 1987 and is mostly made from cast aluminum to save on the overall weight. 4-wheel power disc brakes provide the stopping and dual exhaust snakes its way rearward past all this metal menagerie to a dual rear exit (stage left?!)

Drive-Ability
Since our decoder mentioned it, I need to hop in, and see for myself and frankly I was blown away! Lots of power, very smooth seemingly endless acceleration, rail like handling, and bias free panic stopping when you need it. All functions were working just great save for the reverse lights, and I loved the silver seats. Not unlike the old silver dollars that used to hang around, just neat-o to see.

Looking much like your mild mannered, (if it exists), Corvette this baby has some surprises for your foot when you put it into the throttle. Snazzy original paint, a reworked engine with plenty of extra power now, and a clean 1987 Interior. This car deserves a serious look due to the upgrades, and you can open one of the more powerful versions of the 1987 Corvette.
