1973 Chevrolet Nova SS Clone

For decades much of the classic car world has been broken down into two distinct schools of thought: those who believe automobiles should be kept or restored to as original as possible, and those who are willing to mix-and-match drivetrains, trim, and features from a specific era in order to create the vehicle they want to drive. It's important to mention that the second group doesn't refer to restomods, or the modernization of classic metal. Rather, it's composed of owners who have no qualms about taking a regular Chevelle Coupe and transforming it into an SS. The practice is called 'cloning,' and it's been a part of the collector car landscape for as long as the hobby has existed.

For consignment, a 1973 Nova SS Clone Car. The beneficiary of a restoration, now has a 454ci V8 bored .030 over. All looking stunning in its burnt orange paint, new gauges, comfy racing buckets complete with 5-point racing seat belts, and a B&M shifter. Check it out!

With the front subframe removed from the body, all was sandblasted, and any rust remediation took place at this time. Body panels are now laser straight, gaps are well minded and paint is a very nice quality. The car retains its original grille, however the shiny bumper below is now painted in burnt orange metallic like the remainder of the body. A hood with a large rearward facing scoop is on and some of the side window trimmings have been painted as well. Badging is correct for an SS and a sweeping rear trunk and rear window can be seen gracefully ending in another painted burnt orange bumper. A large chromed side pipe peeks out either side just before the rear wheel well, we can see traction bars on the rear. 15-inch American Racing polished Torque Thrust wheels are wrapped by all season radials. Noted are a few areas of some minor rust bubbling (roof area near drip edges) and a few larger scratches within this nice paint.

When it was all apart, a roll bar was welded in to reduce the chances of any twisting of the chassis and for added safety. Then large comfy racing buckets were put in. The rear seat was removed, (still will come with the car if you want it), and some 5-point racing seat belts have been installed into the front buckets. Along the complete redux, we now see a new dash complete with white faced Autometer gauges all neatly inset into a field of black vinyl. New black carpeting floods the floors and a B&M shifter is mounted neatly into the hump. A new tight black vinyl headliner is above the roll bar, and all glass is excellent condition. Noted now occupying the rear cargo area is a stainless-steel fuel cell and a battery in a plastic case. Door panels have been modified to accommodate the roll bar.

Under the hood in a completely restored engine bay is now stuffed with a 454ci big block V8 which has been bored .030 over. Edelbrock aluminum heads and a “Performer” Edelbrock intake manifold with a Holley 850cfm carburetor atop. Also within the aluminum heads are a Crane cam setup, and Hooker headers. All this within the pristine engine bay looking spectacular. A Turbo 350 transmission with heavy duty clutches is worked by a B&M shifter. A 10-bolt rear axle is on the back and is fitted with an Auburn posi unit.

With a sub frame cleaned, brushed and painted with Por 15 so now we see a field of black all buttoned up metal. Totally rust free with dual side exit exhaust, new traction bars, all stainless-steel brake lines. Consigner also states that all bearings, bushings, and body mounts are new. Frame connectors are on now as well. Front disc brakes and rear drums are providing the whoa factor.

This car fires up with a mighty roar which is music to the high performance engine person's ears. On the test track it has wonderful acceleration that goes on and on. Decent handling but probably built to go more in a straight line. Bias free panic stopping and it was a thrill ride overall.

A nice restoration and clone of the SS Nova, big block bored engine, fuel cell, roll cage, racing seats, and it will go fast if you put a little foot into it. All rust free and very nice overall condition and a good job on the restification.
