1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The C3 Corvette, built between 1968 and 1982 was the third generation of Chevrolet's venerable Corvette sports car. Occasionally seen as polarizing, the C3 garnered both praise and criticism for its radical design, purpose and driving dynamics. Expectations were huge when the model launched. Zora Arkus-Duntov and Billy Mitchell, the second generation C2 Corvette designers, had just built the hugely successful, powerful, and respected Sting Ray Corvette. Even today, the Sting Ray is widely regarded as one of the best Corvette models ever made.

For consignment a rounded sculpted design for this '74 C3 Vette version. Gone are the chrome bumpers on the back and now a rounded rear in complete neoprene crash forgiving material. A numbers matching 350ci V8 and a 3-speed automatic version it is the easiest sports car you will ever have an opportunity to drive. A wonderful interior and a strong mill, and for easy money you can be into the Corvette Club!

Exterior
The first year without the chrome bumpers and bowtie designers have taken rolling sculpture to another level. Curvaceous lines use hidden headlights, a shark-like open mouth front grille in black and front fenders that take on the feminine form to create the line of this car. Let's bathe all the fiberglass in pristine Classic White just so it catches a few more eyes to look a few seconds longer. Slight cracking on the paint can be seen throughout as well as some ripple in the front bumper neoprene. Sides are exaggerated coke bottle design, a Corvette cove within the front quarters, a removable T top in body matching white and the vertical rear glass framed on either side with the flying buttress B pillars and it's looking fine. The rear uses the Corvette round taillights although now they are deeply embedded into a roll over rear which is total neoprene and protects collisions to meet the 5mph law from 1974. Deep dish rally wheels all chromed up and wrapped in wide radials are on all 4 corners. A knight in shining white armor.

Interior
A sea of saddle brown vinyl buckets, carpet, dash, and door panels, with just a few areas of added embossing to the panels to add some extra texture. Original deeply sunk in round gauges front the steering wheel, center of dash, and even A/C is installed in the console controlled by horizontal wheels in lieu of sliders for temperature…mod! The automatic shifter is here as well. Just above is an aftermarket Alpine AM/FM/Cassette player and a series of 5 round gauges in a central panel with some upper warning lights. The passenger dash has a leather pouch for storage. Gold carpeting floods the floors and the T panels are showing no water leakage around the seals which are supple and shiny.

Drivetrain
Lifting the front hinged hood, we see a reveal of the power plant for this curvaceous hunk of fiberglass, in the form of a 350ci V8 mill. It is numbers matching and sports a single 4-barrel carb on top. On the back is a TH400 3-speed automatic, and the rear axle is set at 3.08 ratio. Headers are on and all is clean and nice under here my Corvette appreciators!

Undercarriage
Some surface rust on the frame but overall, structurally sound. Square steel horizontal bars add to the structural integrity and all of these are very clean and black. Corvette suspension abounds and power disc brakes are on all 4 corners. Very aero under here.

Drive-Ability
Runs great, starts right up, and it did well on its paces through the test track. Bias free braking on the panic stop, and handles very well, certainly enough to give your passenger a scare.

White, with Saddle Brown vinyl interior, automatic and a T top all this looking in fair to good condition, and probably best described as slightly used with faults but nothing glaring.
