1939 Ford Deluxe Sedan

1939 Ford Deluxe Sedan

With its wind-swept design and classic good looks, Ford's DeLuxe series has always been a rare and highly desirable line of cars. Not surprisingly, gearheads, customizers and 70 years' worth of dedicated fans have elevated it to one of hot rodding's greatest cultural icons.

For consignment, a project car that was started on, and currently sits unfinished but does have some nice features added on from the first attempt to restore it. This includes air bagged suspension, rack and pinion steering, and a 283ci V8 and TH350 transmission. A beautiful start with Ford's design and a consignor's vision, all aboard to restoration town!

Exterior
This car is a story about partial workings of all aspects. Exterior panels have been remediated of rust and filled in and sanded down to have beautiful rust-free panels. Black in a satin almost primer stage covers the lower body. White paint is reserved for the top and front windshield surround. A few trim pieces are on and accounted for, however there are still many missing. Upfront a large rounded bulbous hood mates up with the beautifully shaped grille which has some of the vertical ribs missing on the driver's side of said grille. One teardrop headlight is embedded into the fender which are very nice and rounded. All bumpers are shaved, all original glass is in this car, and a look at the swooping down back of this car shows wonderful curves, no straight lines, and just 2 simple teardrop taillights in the bog rounded rear fenders. Wheels were changed out to a 5-bolt configuration and 3 are chromed steel.

Interior
Just the metal shell here to see and use your imagination as to exactly how you will fix up this fixer-upper. Original unrestored dash is there, no steering wheel, replacement front floors and rear metal floors are below. In the back is another frame of the original rear bench. Some of the older broadcloth can be seen so you have a reference as to how the interior was originally covered.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 283ci V8 engine circa 1958-1962. It has an orange painted block and a satin Edelbrock intake manifold. On top is a single 4-barrel carburetor, and a TH350 3-speed automatic is in the back. No flexplate or driveshaft as these will be needed before proceeding forward on its own. The master cylinder is installed but no brake lines have been run on this car as of yet. Independent suspension with airbag is in front, and a 4 link with more bags is on back. Power discs for the front and power drums for the rear.

So, as you can see, there are some aspects to this mid restoration that will need to take place prior to going for a spin, but until that time, use your best creativity, and cook up some snappy themes that this car could become. The basics are there, it just needs a bit of a gifted hand and open mind.
