1950 Harley-Davidson FL with Sidecar

The Harley-Davidson FL is a model designation used on Harley-Davidson motorcycles since 1941. The FL suffix is mostly applied to Harley-Davidson's large-framed bikes, including the current Touring series, and also the Softail series, especially those with traditional styling, 16-inch front wheels, and either Springer forks or large-diameter telescopic front forks.

Finished in the original Flight Red paint with factory leather throughout. Powered by its original 74ci engine mated to a 4-speed suicide shift manual transmission and only 16,142 original miles. This is an honest survivor bike that was purchased new by the owner of a Harley-Davidson dealership in Pennsylvania. When he passed away his son took ownership of the motorcycle as well as the dealership. He kept the bike and sidecar on display in a glass case in the dealership as a memorial to his father. When times got tough and the dealership had to shut its doors for good, the bike became available for sale for the first time since 1950. An avid collector in New Hampshire purchased the Panhead and owned it for a short while but never had time to ride it, so we are fortunate enough to acquire it and add it to our consignment collection. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a true piece of Harley-Davidson history.

The Bike:
In its classic form this beauty and its sidecar has undergone a painfully exacting restoration, and now presents with nary even a stone chip to be seen on the bike or its trimmings. Bathed in Flight Red, which was the original color now a respray and is beautifully applied. This red mixes with plenty of shiny pristine chrome trimmings, 16-inch wire wheels and black leather accents, also near perfect in condition. There is a trio of head lights in front of a tall clear front shield. Badging is authentic 1950's, and the wire wheels are a beautiful accenting to the front and back, as well as the side car which has a spare attached to the back of it. This sidecar is also covered in the Flight Red, no marks or errors and has a black interior seat and trim. For the suspension on the bike, clean shiny telescoping forks are in front and these flank a drum brake. For the rear it's a hardtail and another drum brake.

The Power:
Nestled within the middle of the black solid frame is the heart of this 1950 classic in the form of a numbers matching 1200cc pan head V twin. It is fed fossils by a Linkert 1-barrel carburetor, and there is a 4-speed transmission to glide you forward. This classic utilizes a foot clutch and has a shift lever next to the fuel tank, so it's not your conventional foot shifting hand clutching machine. In other words, one needs to know what they are doing to ride this beauty. Also, no electric start, you need to kick start it.

Conclusion:
It's not very often a pristine classic old Harley comes through our amazingly diverse facility, and this presents definitely as one of our star players. It's not encased in a clear plastic box but does hold a special space where any potential buyer can get up close and personal, taking in every detail, which is highly recommended with a piece of history that is so amazingly well restored. And you have the sidecar so you can take a friend on a loud but throwback ride through the country with not a care in the world. A show-er that actually is also a go-er. All aboard!
