The 1978 Chevrolet El Camino was the first year of the 5th and final version of the Chevelle and Malibu based light-duty pick up hybrids. For the first time it shared its own unique chassis, not sharing with any other Chevrolet Model. It was available in V6, as well as a 305 or 350 cubic inch V8 option. The only available transmission was the 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic.
