1950 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

1950 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

Advance-Design was a pickup truck series by Chevrolet, their first major redesign after WWII. Its GMC counterpart was the GMC New Design. It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlier AK Series. First available on Saturday June 28, 1947, these trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when the Task Force Series trucks replaced the aging Advance-Design model.

For consignment a mere 2 owners have driven and loved this truck throughout its lifetime. A worker bee truck, not perfect, but runs great, and has an updated interior. Exterior has a few scratches but no rust, and just a few battle scars in the form of dings.

Exterior
This curvaceous truck is bathed in green on its with its straight steel rust free panels, and curving fenders. Upfront a grille which curves to match the hood above is also painted green and has some chromed flat inserts that match the curve atop each of the 4 horizontal ribs. Below is a chromed curved single bumper and a large Chevrolet badge which undulates around the rounded hood. Single headlights on the front of rounded over bump out fenders, have orange turn signal lights atop of them, and remember this was an option in 1950! The large hood rests up to the solid windshield with near perfect glass, and a nicely rounded over single door cab sits behind the hood. Below this cab, and behind the front fender right at the rocker is a black metal running board/step up which extends into the rear pickup bed for access to the front of the bed. Behind this is another nicely rounded fender which flanks either side of the straight steel bed. Sides of the bed have some dents and dings as does the rear tailgate but expected because this truck was used for work! The bed is lined with white plastic, and the sides have metal square stock posts to put whatever you want on the top to cover the bed. Taillights and a single chrome bumper hang from the sides and back on this truck. Black wall tires are all around and have chromed moon caps in the centers of black steel wheels.

Interior
Brown vinyl mixes with taupe colored metal for the doors, dash, and headliner. A brown bench seat which is newer, stretches from door to door and has no tears or holes. The original metal sprayed dash showing some nice wear, also in taupe color, sports its dual round gauge cluster and speedometer in front of the big steering wheel. A central chromed horizontal ribbed speaker cover, and inserted ashtray and passenger glove box, has an AM radio above, and a chrome Chevrolet badge band. Black rubber weatherproof and dirt free floors are seen as well as a lighter tan felt headliner above.

Drivetrain
Flipping the hood, we are greeted with a beautifully aged “machine age” oil and patina engine which is a 216ci Inline 6 cylinder. We are not sure if it is original to the truck due to its casting number of 3835263 (1942-1953 216ci) and AGCM360648 (1949 Series 3600-3800 216ci I6). A 1-barrel carburetor sits below and oil bath air cleaner system, and a 3-speed manual transmission is on back. Overall, the engine bay is mostly original well detailed and taken care of but looking wonderfully used.

Undercarriage
All coated with a light spray of surface rust, she's all structurally sound underneath. Floorpans body hangers, rockers and frame are all coated with the light rust patina but are sound and looking good. Weathered planks of wood can be seen as the original bed dealing from below, and leaf spring suspension is all around. Drum brakes present on all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
A fine and nicely preserved working truck is always a pleasure to drive, as it has a worn and broken in quality that always brings a smile to my face. This truck did not disappoint on the performance front with smooth acceleration, good easy shifting, and it got me down the road. All functions were in working order.

2 original owners makes it even more special, some respray on the paint, and newer interior, she's ready for the next round, and leaving you with the ability to keep on trucking' and lookin' good! Let's go to work!
