1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

The aerodynamic lines of America's original sports car make it the one automobile nobody mistakes for anything else. In a coupe or convertible this is the genuine article, designed and engineered without compromise. Corvette stands proudly alone, because nobody but Chevrolet can turn out a car like this on a production line. And it's as honest as it is beautiful. As you've learned to expect.

On our showroom floor here at the Classic Auto Mall this “blue angel” 1969 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. Beautiful lines topped off with excellent chrome for this year the real racing form was taking shape. This well documented car with a 427ci V8 390 horse engine, power windows, power brakes, matching numbers and Stinger is an all original car, just hop in turn the key and enjoy the heck out of it.

Exterior
From its sharklike front end with hidden headlights and the svelte single bumper below, and all panels bathed in Marina Blue, repainted from its original LeMans Blue, the line of this 69 is just fine. More shark influence on the front quarters with some chromed “gills”. Sculpted fenders and a short rear deck, the Corvette had become the ultimate pony car with long front end and short rear deck. On back the round taillights and eyebrow bumpers yielding to the central license plate mounting, and dual exhaust emanating from chrome rimmed holes for the dual chrome tipped exhaust. On top is a white canvas convertible, just pristine with a slightly clouded rear plastic window. The low curvaceous stance is emphasized by 15-inch shiny rally style wheels and raised lettering 215/70R15's all around.

Interior
Near perfect original black vinyl covers the flared doors on the inside panels. Simple chromed door lock knob and door actuator are within this black field. When closed these bump up to the original dash complete with deep dish round gauges, and central panel with more gauges that look like you may be in the cockpit of a Lear jet. Black buckets with some textured inserts and smooth bolsters all in black vinyl, cover the bomber styled buckets with their low backs. The central console houses the shifter, temp wheels, power window toggles and a storage box with padded top for your arms to rest on. Behind the seats is a nicely carpeted storage area in black just like the floor coverings. A metal boot cover for the top, makes the appearance of this car when the top is down to be seamless.

Drivetrain
Authenticity reigns under this hood with the numbers matching engine and remainder of the drivetrain. Starting with that stout 427ci V8 from Tonawanda plant on November 11, 1969, single 4-barrel carburetor all correct, as well as the intake are atop. On back is the from the factory Muncie M20 4- speed manual transmission, from October 13th, 1969. The rear axle also original to this car as coded out is a CAT-3.08 HD Positraction from November 14th, 1969. The numbers do not lie, neither does the appearance, as all surfaces are nicely preserved as they are squeezed in under this long vented hood.

Undercarriage
Looking all buttoned up on the undercarriage with very slight surface rust, but all structurally solid, and just wonderfully preserved. From the front suspension look for independent coil springs, and for the back C3 Corvette suspension. Power disc brakes are standard for this 69 version and these are on and looking all good!

Drive-Ability
Like driving a piece of rolling sculpture, this one in the blue is just a head turner. Artful design and aesthetic power with creative use of suspension all work together for a great performer from 1969, all numbers matching and original. A great turnkey driver. The A/C was inoperable at the time of our test drive.

Marina Blue, numbers matching, and that white convertible, we have a winner, so give it a blue ribbon! Seldom seen color combo, but remains timeless, and just a bit out of the ordinary, but very desirable with the 427ci/M20 combo.
