1946 Ford Pickup

1946 Ford Pickup

Pickups were the first civilian vehicles to come back after WWII because they were the workhorses needed to help rebuild in a peacetime economy. We were out of the war in '46, and some of the great American iconic elements came back. Steel was becoming more plentiful by not being used up by the war effort, and in these old trucks there is plenty of it in use.

For consignment a custom build with a unique look by utilizing the frame, cab, and bed from the original 1946 Ford, but then adding the front hood, and fenders from a 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe. All custom built from exterior to interior by Anthony DiSalvo from Long Island. A beautiful visually appealing mixture of truck and car.

Exterior
Starting up front at the bulbous fenders with the teardrop headlights that flank a central curved V horizontal ribbed grille and move upward to a tall V hood it has a fab look. From the hood back is pure 1946, and the whole truck is all American steel. Everything is bathed in Forest Green Metallic which is buffed to a deep shine. A few nicks are seen on this truck, but overall is it very nicely showing off its green side. Running boards are solid, and the polished oak bed is held together by shiny mounting strips between each board. Looking at the back of this truck, it is mostly original except for the sergeant stripe taillights. American Racing Torque Thrust wheels in black spoke form are on all 4 corners.

Interior
Saddle brown pleated door panels have a faux leather grain and are framed on top by the green metallic sills and on bottom by green carpet material. A large tuck and roll bench also in saddle brown has a split back and stretches from door to door. This is a power seat and is very clean and free of any tears or wrinkles. An old school dash retains much of its original charm, except for the instrument cluster which has VDO gauges floating in a panel of stainless steel. The remainder of the dash is green metal and has a nice contrast with the saddle brown doors and seats. A tilt steering column topped with a modern version of the old banjo style steering wheels that was popular in the 40's. This truck has real tinted glass, and a stereo with a CD player. Green carpet covers the floor.

Drivetrain
Shoehorned underneath that 1940 Ford Deluxe hood is a beautifully painted red block and valve covered 289ci V8. It is topped by a 4-barrel Holley carburetor and backed by an FMX 3-speed automatic.

Undercarriage
Underneath we see no rust, and a fully restored undercarriage with a new fuel tank, fuel lines and pump. Power disc brakes are on the front and power drums on the rear.

Drive-Ability
This snazzy truck fired right up and ran like a dream. It handled very well and has some kick to it when you get a little goosey with the boot. A comfortable ride, and definitely a head turner with its mixture of 1946 and 1940.

If you want custom, you have it in spades with this truck/car combo. Beautifully constructed with lots of custom trimmings and a beautiful 289ci V8 under the car hood. A pristine bed in polished oak, and an overall look that you will be the only one to have this amalgamation of parts showing so well!
