1928 Ford Model A Roadster

1929 Ford Model A Roadster

The Ford Model A can be found in many iterations: coupe, to a roadster, to a sedan to a pickup. Henry Ford had a solid base in the Model A and appeased the masses with various options on that frame.

As with many older versions of cars, so many visual customization modifications have been done, that the original showroom look has long been gone. In the case of this car though, mostly original intent as well as actual visual parts to this build, have been retained. Particularly on the body presentation.

Exterior
A Cream colored body starts us off and it is fiberglass with a steel hood. This body is flanked by black curving fenders that run the length of the body and are attached at the doors with a running board on either side. The front radiator grille cowling is nice and mirror-like and is topped with a Ford blue oval and a flying goose radiator cap. Single headlight are seen on either side all in chrome finish, as well as a dual bar curved bumper. The top of the windshield hinges outward to allow for airflow to enter the car for a cooling breeze. Speaking of a breeze, a vinyl black convertible top with a semi clear back plastic window, that moves up and down easily tops the car off. On the rear we see a mother in law seat in black vinyl, and directly underneath a laminated shiny wood and chrome trunk rack this is of a fold down style. A few areas of some paint chipping, and just below the rear window in front of the rumble seat, the paint appears to have had something sticky adhered to it, and was recently removed, but left residue and marks. 15-inch chromed Ford 5 spoke wheels with knockoff hubs are seen on all 4 corners. These wheels and the dual chrome tipped exhaust are the only clues that this mild-mannered Model A could have something up its sleeve.

Interior
Black vinyl covers most of the interior surfaces including the door panels with a pocket and a single wrap around style bench. In front is a beautiful lacquered wood burl veneer dash, which houses nicely contrasting white faced Classic Instruments with gold bezels keeping that nice warm feel. A Grant GT rally style steering wheel with light gold anodized spokes fronts the dash. Black nicely kept carpet covers the floors.

Drivetrain
With the lift of one of the side cowls for the hood, we have an all buttoned up and clean 302ci V8 within the pristine engine bay. A single 4-barrel Holley carb is on top, and a 3-speed C4 automatic transmission is on back. Nicely polished valve covers, and other polished attachments wrap around a yellow painted carburetor, and in the yellow engine bay it is snazzy.

Undercarriage
Black and no rust beautiful is seen underneath with all totally restored. A Mustang II provides the front suspension , and leaf springs for the rear are seen. Disc brakes are on front and drums on the rear. A Turbo Muffler system is seen on stainless exhaust and these grab spent gasses from the headers.

Drive-Ability
This classic started quickly, sounded great, and has a fine ride quality. It has some power and can cruise with ease. A nice visual presentation and head turner while on our “stroll”.

Presenting as a typical Model A save for the snappy wheels, big tires, and chromed tipped exhaust, without looking under the hood you would have seen mostly what Henry made and envisioned along with Edsel arguing for change right by his ear. Nicely done, we have a cruiser, a runner and a shower all wrapped in 1929 garb. Grab my straw hat and get in!
