1972 Chevrolet C20 Pickup

1972 Chevrolet C20 Pickup

Chevrolet developed the "personalized" pickup, commonly known as the "glamour pickup," which was produced from 1967 to 1972 and transitioned from a utilitarian workhorse to a family second "car" with added engine power, a more comfortable cab and custom sport truck options. The vehicle provided the dual function of a light-duty work truck on weekends and a passenger family vehicle during the week.

For consignment a classic 3/4 ton pickup, which can be used during the week to do chores and haul various and sundry things, and driven to church on the weekends. New bed now lined as well, and HD suspension, and extensive undercarriage work, now have this truck in tip top condition.

Exterior
Formerly green from the factory it now has a fresh coat of Polar White. Panels are straight, and noted on the driver's front quarter, is an area of minor paint bubbling. Front egg crate style grille flanked by single headlights shows this trim in good condition. The front bumper has been painted black, and the rear bumper is in its original diamond plate topped gray painted metal, which is showing some invasive rust on either edge. A few dents and minor dings, and as noted a new truck bed from a Texas donor truck has now been sprayed with a black bed liner. A rear sliding window is on the back of the cab, and dual mirrors hang from the sides on the doors. 16-inch wheels are wrapped by Kelly Safari AWR tires in very good condition.

Interior
Sea foam green bathes the door panels molded plastic inserts and the metal dash which stretches from door to door. A newly upholstered slightly muted green (different than the seafoam green) has tuck and roll broad cloth inserts and smooth vinyl bolsters. Back to the dash where the instrument cluster is in a black field has 3 main rings and other circular gauges within a black field in front of the original steering wheel. Some of the chrome trim around the black and the bezels show some wear. An aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette player has been neatly inserted into the formerly radio delete space, and airflow levers are right below this radio. The headliner is molded plastic and in faded sea foam green, and the floors have rubber lining in black.

Drivetrain
A 350ci V8 with some surface rusting, corrosion, and patina is sitting in an original looking unrestored engine bay. This engine is fed by a single 4-barrel carburetor, and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission is on the back of the engine, which pushes power rearward to an HO72 rear.

Undercarriage
A spattering of surface rust is noted on the frame; however, it remains structurally sound. Floorpans look good, and newer body mounts have been installed all around. HD suspension is on this truck, and front disc brakes are now seen along with the rear drums. Independent, coil spring front suspension and coil springs on the rear, and a Turbo muffler is attached.

Drive-Ability
A turn of the key and it started right up. It ran smoothly and drove with a warlike feel despite the HD suspension. Acceleration was strong, and brakes functioned normally. With some tight turns there was slight body roll, but no creaking or extraneous noise.

A fresh respray on white, a new bed and spray on liner, a refresh on the interior bench, and some undercarriage work, and we are ready to roll on for an additional long period of time. A great farm truck or one to have at the cabin, so why not make it a classic with a great longevity record.
