1950 International L-120 Pickup

1950 International L-120 Pickup

The vehicle for the working man, a utility hauler, the “pick up” truck came to be with Henry Ford's model T which came with a back open bed that could carry large cargo from one place to another. Pick Up from one location and take to another. A simple idea that has grown to be the most popular selling vehicle type all across the US.

For consignment a barn find if you will, but not even close to the typical barn find you would use for parts etc. This aged beauty spent every night tucked in a barn. This rare ¾ Ton example had one owner for 69 years. This is the definition of patina, and for all its dings, dents, scratches and dull paint, I personally would not change a thing.

Exterior
Harvester Red with the perfect dulled sheen on all steel panels that have their used qualities, scratches chips, dents and misaligning if changed would ruin this truck. It would ruin all the history you can breathe in when you sit in it and drive it, all the stories of how it survived for nearly 70 years and is still around to tell about it. From its chrome front bumper to its rounded cab with a split rear window, and a bed that shows use, this is a classic that served its purpose and now can just be enjoyed. Even the tubed knobby snow tires on all 4 corners add to its charm. The rear tailgate has a fracture near the driver's side hinge, and there are areas of some rust, but it actually makes the truck look better.

Interior
Screw on black painted hardboard makes up the door panels. Similar material only textured creates the rudimentary headliner. A gray metal curved dash front has areas of rust, but it appears as though there are restored gauges. A red metal dash top with some faults tops the dash front and has a chromed ashtray with a bakelite knob. Rubber flooring is noted and there is a heater installed. A new bench seat has been added in and is pristine.

Drivetrain
Popping the massive heavy hood, we are met with an original engine, that gives the viewer the appearance of peering at an old machine shop photo, with a dull coating of oil on metal, but everything works well, and moves together nicely. A 220ci I-6 Silver Diamond with a 1-barrel carburetor, and oil bath air cleaner attached to the side. A T9 3-speed manual transmission is attached to the rear, and the entire engine bay has plenty of room for the shade tree mechanic to perform his tasks if needed.

Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust and more nice patina, frame seems structurally sound…suspension is all functioning well. Slight surface rust is peppering the inside of the doors near the rockers.

Drive-Ability
A wonderful driver, and it was hard to concentrate thinking of all the possibilities this truck could have experienced throughout its life. But I digress, as it started right up, idled smoothly, shifted nicely, and got us around the Classic Auto Mall lot with ease. New front seat is nice, and this old bird does not even creak when you put it into t a turn. The snow tires create a nice hum when you get them up to speed.

Just a great example of a barn find treasure, 1 owner, has its faults but they contribute to its visual charm. This is a runner, and you literally can get in turn the key, and go to work or play. Just think of the stories it has to tell!
