1972 GMC C10 Pickup

1972 GMC C10 Pickup

The model year 1960 brought the GMC pickup into the modern era with its C/K series lineup. The “C” designation identified two-wheel-drive pickups, and the “K” identified 4X4s. The most common pickup was the C10, a half-ton truck with a 6.5- or 8-foot cargo box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same vehicle during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when the 1998 Silverado replaced it.

For consignment the right year to have GMC C10, due to its clean lines, and overall attractive look. And this one is even better because it's been upgraded in the engine and transmission department, is a cool (literally) color, has a removable cab roof, and a groovy rear bed flip-up hardcover.

Exterior
With light green paint (nearly turquoise) which was applied in the 80's this truck still shines like new. Save for some larger rear wheels, and stripped off badging and rear bumper, the truck looks very much like it's born with form. Original grille presents nicely, gaps are just slightly off, however overall its straight and the panel are all steel. A nifty and clean white tonneau cover hides the rubber diamond plate pattern bed liner, and carpeted wheel wells. 15” Astro Blade wheels shine brightly from each corner and are wrapped in 29 x 15.5 x 15 wide rear rubber, and 235/75R15's in front. The cab roof is removable and has a canvas convertible custom cover. Now that's something you don't see every day!

Interior
A swing of the doors and we see molded vinyl panels in black and gray, the black section has embossed Sheridan Style carving. Gray carpeting is below, and body color is above creating a truly great color combination. Interior has dual wide luxurious leather buckets that are two tone gray and white. The dash has been painted black and has been modified to house smaller Suntune speedometer and SunSuper tachometer. A rally style GT steering wheel protrudes from this custom dash and is made of carbon fiber. Nice gray clean carpet covers the floor.

Drivetrain
350/350 combination under the hood, meaning a TKB 350ci V8 topped with a single 4-barrel Holley Carburetor and Weiand intake. The automatic transmission is a TH350. Eyeballing the engine bay and it is really another great use of color and chrome in the light green, chrome and black and is very well done.

Undercarriage
All clean and restored under here, some slight surface rust, but overall straight steel, structurally sound, and all good. A 10-bolt rear, power disc brakes upfront and power drums in the rear, with independent front suspension and leaf spring on the rear you'll have a smooth ride. Nice clean headers and a Turbo Muffler, and the big 22-gallon fuel tank are like new.

Drive-ability
A turn of the key and the candles are instantly lit. Seats are wide and very comfortable, truck runs smoothly, sounds fantastic, and handles surprisingly well for a truck. Power steering and brakes make it really drivable. Did not experience any notable problems with our test jaunt.

Our consigner obtained this truck when it was in pro street form, and brought it back to street legal form, gave it some spiffing, and had his folly with her. Now he's ready to part, and his loss is your gain!
