1952 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

1952 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

Advance-Design was a pickup truck series by Chevrolet, their first major redesign after WWII. Its GMC counterpart was the GMC New Design. It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlier AK Series. First available on Saturday June 28, 1947, these trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when the Task Force Series trucks replaced the aging Advance-Design model.

For consignment a 20 plus year old restoration showing some of the faults that time has on metal. A consigner stated period correct engine, though not original, but in working condition, running smoothly. This is a 6-volt system truck, and presents as it would have in 1952.

Exterior
A teal green respray has areas of cracking, crazing, bubbling, and scratching. An area near the bottom of the doors is seen with some of the previous repairs beginning to peel away and undulate. Invasive rust has started on the front fenders near the hood. Overall paint is fair and shows as a working truck. The bed is oak, and metal securing strips, and has been painted black. Original grille has dulled a bit, and bumpers show some dulling as well. Black running boards connect the bulbous fenders and a split windshield, with corner windows at the B pillar of the cab, give this 3100 its 5-window name.

Interior
White over black door panels showing some previous repairs house the door opener and window crank. A matching two-tone bench with black tuck and roll inserts and white bolsters and black piping stretches from door to door and shows in good condition with no tears or wear. Off white carpeting and a rubber mat are noted on the floor. The original black dash with all the fixings is upfront, however we've found that the speedometer, odometer, radio, heater, wipers and horn all are currently not operational. Headliner is 2 white panels adhered to the steel roof.

Drivetrain
As noted, the period correct 216ci Inline 6-cylinder sits in an unrestored engine bay. It is topped by a 1-barrel carburetor and has a 3-speed manual transmission.

Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust underneath with some areas of invasive rust with layers of steel seen peeling and cracking due to the rust. Frame appears solid, however it's difficult to tell if it is indeed structurally sound.

An older restoration now patina, and rust have begun to take over. These trucks are still very popular and can be rodded or restored and you'll have a head turner. In running order, but many of the electrics and speedo and odometer are nonfunctioning, so it may need immediate attention. A project truck which if redone will still hold its value based on the quality of the restoration due to its popularity around collectors.
