1968 Ford Bronco Sport

1968 Ford Bronco Sport

The Ford Bronco was introduced to the public in August of 1965 to compete against Jeep's CJ-5 and International Harvester's Scout in the burgeoning recreational four-wheel drive vehicle market. The first Broncos were very spartan without options such as power steering and an automatic transmission. Initial models were available only with a 105hp 170ci six-cylinder derived from Ford's Falcon lineup. The only available transmission was Ford's 3.03 three-speed manual with a column mounted shifter.

For consignment a survivor. With a researched and documented 48K original miles, this truck is believed to have spent most of its life in Arizona. An older respray, with some scratches and dents, but no rust. A few upgrades over the years, and this truck is ready to roll, and will be pulling many new SUV's out of a hole for a while to come.

Exterior
Donned with a sport package which includes bright finished horn ring, windshield drip, head and tail lamp bezels, side window frames, tailgate handle, chrome-plated grille, bumpers and front guards, red die cast F-O-R-D letters appliquéd to the grille, and 15″ wheel covers. Bumpers with curved ends and side marker reflectors immediately distinguished the 1968 models from their predecessors. Locking front hubs are seen as well. All exterior panels are rust free, and have a Signal Flare Red respray, which was done several years ago. A white top covers the passenger compartment and has a roof rack. Noted is a nicely preserved chrome spear running the length of this truck on the belt line. A shiny rocker trim is seen on drivers' side, and passenger side is missing its cover, however as well with no rust. Bringing up the rear is a swinging mounted spare tire.

Interior
Seat covers were recently replaced with excellent replicas, and seating is clean, and crack free in white. A white dash respray, rubber mats, and a full metal headliner are noted, as well as a roll bar for when you want to go topless. Vacuum wipers were replaced with electric, and power steering was put in. Door panels are excellent and sit within nicely patina metal interior door frames. A dual fuel tank option was added at the factory.

Drivetrain
A 289ci V8 in original condition sits in a clean engine bay and is topped by a single 2-barrel carburetor. The manual transmission has been replaced with an automatic C4 3-speed version.

Undercarriage
Some surface rust is noted throughout. A B8J package is put on meaning it has a Ford 9” 3.50 limited slip rear axle, and a Dana 30 front axle. All 4WD drive modes work well, power disc front brakes and power drum brakes have been added, as well as a brake booster, and power steering. Toe kicks, rockers and frame are rust free.

Indeed, a rare find, with documented mileage, nice overall patina, no rust, and some mechanical upgrades. What else could you want? A fully functional example that will have hoots and hollers as well as thumbs up when you drive by in an original from 1968.
