1938 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery

1938 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery Master Deluxe

The Sedan Delivery (also sometimes referred to a Panel Delivery), for the uninitiated, is a relatively obscure body style of a van built on a car chassis. Typically, these take the form of a station wagon body, but with steel panels where the rear windows would be. Historically, sedan deliveries had two doors, but modern versions typically have four. In the beginning, back when it was enough just to have four wheels and an engine, all light duty trucks were essentially sedan deliveries. A Model T with a car body was a car; one with a truck body was a truck. Even up until the 1940's, light duty trucks were basically beefed up versions of their donor car chassis (Model TT, AA, and BB, continuing the Ford analogy).

For consignment a relatively rare (only 5,742 were produced) Sedan Delivery Master Deluxe. A Sedan Delivery Master (short wheelbase for Families & Business) …A Sedan Delivery Master Deluxe (long wheelbase for Business). This is the long wheelbase version, and everything on this version has been rebuilt or is new.

Exterior
Cream Paint covers all steel panels and. All are aligned decently, and contain nice chrome, brite work and badging. Excepting the modern style turbine fan wheels, the car retains its original look. This includes a great chromed curved grille, aerodynamic stylized chromed bird hood ornament, side venting in cowling and bullet style body matching headlights up front. And in the rear the centrally located cargo door, and the stemmed taillights attached to the rear fenders, which integrate into the rear section of this car.

Interior
Quite the opposite of the original retained exterior, we are met with a totally custom interior, with plenty of soft and comfortable padding with Dynamite Extreme sound deadening underneath. The door panels covered in a tweed fabric and showing billet style handles and cranks. Seats are new buckets, with plenty of manual adjustments, and covered in lighter tweed fabric with brown piping around all edges. These buckets flank a custom-made center console and front a metal dash which has been modified to house VDO brass bezeled white faced gauges. Vintage Air keeps everything nice and cool. In the cargo section we see more softening of textures with tan carpeting on the side panels, and light brown carpeting on the floor. These are all very clean and tear free throughout. A tight headliner is atop, and this S/D has been equipped with a backup camera.

Drivetrain
Raise the cowlings, and you will be greeted by a very clean engine bay that has the original engine replaced by an Edelbrock 350ci V8 which produces a consigner stated 350hp. This mill achieves this with a Holley Street Avenger 570 CFM carburetor, aluminum heads, MSD Ignition, and is backed by a rebuilt 350 automatic transmission with an aluminum pan and remote oil cooler. All this power goes rearward to a rebuilt 1970 Chevelle rear differential, with Mark Williams rear axles and bearings with a 2:70 gear ratio.

Undercarriage
All rust free we note a '70 Chevelle Front Clip, a '70 Chevelle back half, power disc brakes, new 18-gallon fuel tank, new coil springs front and rear, Ridetech shocks, and Headman Headers and new exhaust pipes and mufflers.

A turn key nicely restored car chassied sedan delivery, with an original looking exterior, some cool turbine style wheels, a powerful 350 engine, plenty of suspension upgrades, and a custom interior, and we can hop in and turn the key and go for as long as you want. All in 1938 sedan delivery style.
