Model A Sport Coupe
1929 Ford Model A Sport Coupe
1929 Ford Model A Sport Coupe
A coupé — also known as coupe — is a car with a fixed-roof body style usually with two doors. The term coupé was first applied to horse-drawn carriages for two passengers without rear-facing seats. The early coupé automobile's passenger compartment followed in general conception the design of horse-drawn coupés. The French variant for this word thus denoted a car with a small passenger compartment.
This very nice older restoration example of the Model A from 1929 with a rumble seat, is classified a Sport Coupe. Beautifully restored to original condition, and well cared for since is an example of early Ford manufacturing.
Taking advantage of a frame off restoration in the 2000, this car presents as if it was just finished. Painted in a gorgeous color combination of Reddish Brown with Black fenders with saw blade edging and straw colored spoke wheels, this A is as nice as you will find anywhere. Body panels are nice and straight, chrome is very nice, and brite work is beautiful. A tan canvas top appears new and has body matching landau bars with a touch of chrome on either side. Dark brown zipper sleeves, and edge stitching add to the contrast of the top as well. A zippered rear window is opened and closed, so when there are passengers gets in the rumble seat, the people in the passenger compartment can talk to each other...all be it loudly! Speaking of the rumble seat it is done in a beautiful brown texture vinyl and appears to have never been used. In the rear is also a sport tire, and a strapped-on leather trunk. flanked by 2 small curved bumpers.
The interior appears new with a brown tuck and roll stitched bench in mohair tweed. This resides in front of a matching body color dash and has the iconic Chrome Ford “Mask” shaped instrument panel in the center. Mohair on door panels, stainless long shaft shifter, and perfectly restored steering wheel make up the remainder of this simple yet functional interior. A hinged front windshield can be opened to allow air to flow freely through the passenger compartment.
An original restored engine in a straight 4-cylinder configuration is seen under the hood cowlings. An oil filter has been added for better oil cleaning. This sits in a nicely patina and preserved engine bay and has also been fully restored. Seen on the 4-cylinder are a rebuilt starter (2016), new axle installed in 2017 and a new water pump also in 2017. A manual transmission is attached to the back of the engine. This car starts right up, drives smoothly, and runs great.
Much time has been spent here as well, as it appears restored and driven, but certainly not neglected because of no rust (even surface rust) and solid frame.
When speaking about this 1929 Model A Sport Coupe, we can say it has been well cared for since a frame off restoration was performed in 2000, and it appears as if it was just completed. A good luster with a few faults, is retained on all exterior surfaces. Fenders were repainted due to lacquer peeling on 6/2017. The canvas top is noted as nearly new. You will look long and hard to find another Sport Coupe anywhere near this condition, and it presents in a wonderful color combination. This car also comes with a cover, and many NOS parts including the original tool kit.
