1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

Some changed style points of the 1955 went to the first wrap-around windshield in trucks, (called "Sweep-Sight"), the egg-crate grille styling shared with '55 Chevy passenger cars, running boards concealed behind the cab doors, as well as a choice of small or expansive wrap-around rear glass.

For consignment, a beautiful and not often seen ground up rebuild blending the timeless looks of a 1955 Chevrolet 3100 pickup with some custom touches and a killer drivetrain.  It sports custom tail lamps, a new rear roll pan, a custom painted tailgate, and a 3rd tail light.  It has an updated dash and the truck is painted with stunning medium blue metallic paint and this works nicely in conjunction with a modernized aluminum panel and gray vinyl interior.

Exterior
The first hint of something different in this year is the “sweep sight” wrap around front glass and the same for the rear view.  A side view shows the swept front design, right down to the side glass and upper framing of the door.  This is also true for the front of the truck.  In front we have a single headlight with a large “visor” overhang formed by the front fenders.  These round topped quarters are bordered by a hood that starts at their height, then rises up gracefully to new heights with a center bulbous portion that starts at the front and moves rearward.  All badging has been shaved from the hood creating a very clean look up front.  A large opening egg crate grille is being used and below hovers a lower front bumper, where we see both in excellent condition.  More trim shaving has been performed on the laser straight semi pontoon sides with all the gaps being well minded.  Medium blue metallic, which is nothing short of an excellent application, covers the entire body of the truck but is not without fault.  Down low we note some rust where the paint has cracked, but at this point it is very minor.  We see a small insert just prior to the rear fender which creates the “stepside” so you can gather things that are in the back of the bed next to the cab.  The bed has rolled tops and is straight and certainly rust free, also bathed in the blue. The rear of the truck has been lowered for a more sexy stance and to allow those larger rear tires to fit into the wide fenders Chevrolet provided from the factory.  Custom tail lights with large red surrounding circles are inset into the rear fenders and a protruding circular bezeled center light is in.  The rear tailgate has the C H E V R O L E T badge custom airbrushed in multiple colors and we see that the rear bumper has been shaved.  The bed floor is stained oak with chromed strips in their centers and a chromed headboard next to the cab.  Very bling!  Chromed steel wheels have a blue trim ring and a blue moon cap center.

Interior
As we swing the doors on this light and airy cab, (due to the wrap around glass), we have door panels which have been customized with an aluminum panel for the upper and painted metallic medium blue for the lower.  Utilitarian but still very nice looking.  Inside we can perch on a gray vinyl bench showing some light soiling on the seats.  This floats in a sea of clean gray carpeting with a floor shifter rising from the center.  A two tone 1959 Impala style blue and white steering wheel is in front of the driver, and it has chromed drilled spokes and a half chromed horn ring.  The dash retains the factory design with the speedo fan design but gauges are now restored with black faces and white numbers and pointers.  The dash top and front are all full metal jacket and painted metallic blue.  Several knobs and pulls pepper this dash, along with a digital AM/FM radio and newly chromed temp sliders.  The glovebox lid and former ashtray pullout are now covered in brushed aluminum panels and the headliner has a blue painted metal frame with a tuck and roll padded gray vinyl insert and gray visors.  Neat-o!

Drivetrain
Under this the shiny hood, and within a fully restored nice metallic blue engine bay is now an orange/red GM painted block 355ci V8.  It has aluminum heads and a shiny Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor.  Chromed valve coverings and a nifty ribbed open style air cleaner covering now tops the 4-barrel carburetor and an aluminum radiator is seen w electric fan.  On the back is a Th350 3-speed automatic transmission.  The rear axle is of the Dana 44 variety.  Shiny stainless headers with glasspack style mufflers are on and all is near showroom for this engine bay with tucked and hidden wiring and all supple hoses.

Undercarriage
A solid black painted rust-free frame and suspension shows wood lined bed underneath at the back of the truck.  Solid bed hangers and fenders undersides are showing in more black and the flooring is rust and mar free.  A 2" drop has been added to the black painted leaf springs are all around and for the front, power disc brakes are seen with power rear braking now installed.  All very clean and neatly prepared with slight road dirt splatter.

Drive-Ability
This hauler starts right up, runs wonderfully smooth, and shifts like a dream.  No creaks or grumbles from that chassis or bed, and the view from the panoramic glass cab is nearly unobstructed.  All functions were working during the test drive and with all the amenities of a modern car added to this interior you could almost forget you were driving a 1955 model and easily mistake it for a 2022.

A full on frame off restoration done to a very high standard in this meticulous restoration.  The use of a beautiful color combination and all being nearly perfect with the interior, we have a yield on a beautiful build and certainly a show award winner right out of the door.  Like a pair of blue suede shoes you might say!
