1954 Roy Rogers Nelly Belle Pedal Car

1954 Roy Rogers NellyBelle Pedal Car

A major western movie star between 1938 and 1954, and known as the 'King of the Cowboys,' Roy Rogers, was one of the most popular of all the singing cowboys. With his horse Trigger and frequent female partner Dale Evans, (whom he married in 1947), Roy was the personification of the hero in the white hat who rid the West of the bad guy in the black hat. All of his films were notable for their strong musical content, provided by Roy and Dale with occasional help from the Sons Of The Pioneers. He soon became Gene Autry's main rival as the most popular singing cowboy, starring in over 100 movies and hosting his own TV show throughout the 1950s. He recorded prolifically with the Sons Of The Pioneers during the 1930s, then once he had launched his own career, he started recording as a solo artist, initially for RCA, and later for Capitol, 20th Century and gospel label Word, making records right through to the early 1990s when he joined contemporary country acts like Clint Black, Randy Travis, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson and Kathy Mattea on a special tribute album that produced his last country hit, Hold On Partner. His horse Trigger appeared in 87 films and 101 TV shows with the popular cowboy star. The horse knew at least one hundred tricks and at one time was receiving at least one thousand fan letters a week. Roy bought Trigger for $80 and refused offers of $150,000 for him. When his beloved palomino died, he had him stuffed and mounted at the Rogers' ranch in California.

Gracing the expansive floor space of our Hallowed Halls and for consignment, a throwback to a simpler and more innocent time. A 1954 NellyBelle Jeep pedal car in unrestored but still in usable condition, well as long as you're on the smaller of stature side. Perfect for a mancave or to bring along when you show off your real CJ2A. Now a bit of history thanks to Onlinebicyclemuseum.co.uk 'NellyBelle' was among the most popular items of Roy Rogers memorabilia sold during the currency of the TV show, (and since), and jeep models were sold in various forms. A small diecast model was marketed by Stuart, and a 15″ plastic 'Nellybelle' was sold by Ideal, complete with a trailer, character figures and Trigger the horse. Marx made a large pressed-steel version, as well as a plastic model in its Roy Rogers Rodeo Ranch Set. The pressed-steel Marx model was the most accurate in colour to the original: with a plastic Pat Brady driving and Dale Evans in the passenger seat, it was 11.75″ long and 5″ wide, and included the cut-out below the windscreen on the passenger side through which Roy Rogers shot his gun. Saddle up pardner!

Exterior
Bathed in the factory application of steel gray for main body and accenting red for the bumpers, 10-inch wheels, windshield frame and roll bar. Classic Jeep styling remains spot on to Roy's actual Nelly used in the TV shows. The iconic grille with white slats is flanked on either side by white painted headlights that are embossed into the body. A large circled H sits atop the hood and a windowless frame in red provides the visual field for the kiddies to see where they're headed. To the left is a small red and tarnished chrome horn/pistol so you can "honk" away at traffic. The only deviation from the actual NellyBelle Jeep is the lack of the armored panel inset at the base of the windshield where Roy would shoot his rifle from. An open passenger compartment with stamped door lines and Nelly Belle and Roy and his horse Trigger both in slightly weathered and worn decaling adorns the sides. Red painted 10-inch pressed steel wheels with thin rubber tires are on the 4's and tarnished moon center caps are in a field of these wheels. A simple squared off back end is equipped with a fold down access door to make entry and exit a bit easier.

Interior
A simple gray steel bench is pressed into the steel flooring that makes the perfect spot for a youngster, or even the kid in you if you're not afraid of getting stuck. Fronting you is a fire engine red steering wheel that grows from a multi-tiered steel dash. Of course the pedals are inside as well, and this is about as simple as things get.

Drive-Ability
While none of the staff possesses the stature to comfortably, or uncomfortably for that matter, fit inside this piece of history we can tell you the pedals and linkage work as they should.

A great piece of Americana and TV history right here in our Hallowed Halls. Perfect for your collection or a restoration project for you to tackle. I'll leave you with some immortal words from Roy...

“Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.”
― Roy Rogers
