2021 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack Widebody

2021 Dodge Challenger R/T Widebody Scat Pack

The late '60s represented the fiercest period of competition between the Big Three, (and to a lesser extent, AMC), for the attention of speed-thirsty American buyers.  By the time 1968 rolled around, Dodge was in the catbird seat with its line-up of fierce street machines, including the Dodge Coronet R/T, the Dodge Charger R/T, and the Dodge Dart GTS, each of which could be ordered with a 375-horsepower, 440-cubic-inch V8 under the hood.  A 340-cubic-inch Dart Swinger was also available, and of course 426 Hemi power was also in the cards for all three models.  What was missing, however, was a way to unify each of these uniquely named models under a single, world-beating banner — an issue that would only get worse with the introduction of the Dodge Super Bee mid-year.  The problem was put to the talented team at the Ross Roy Ad Agency, which came up with the idea of the "Scat Pack" designation that would encompass all of these cars.  It was a play on words — the Rat Pack had been Sinatra's gang of Hollywood pals that became legendary for their partying and the pictures they made together — and as such Dodge also created an actual Scat Pack Club that both car owners and Mopar fans could join for the very affordable price of $3.  For the money, members received a monthly newsletter, a quarterly magazine, a wallet card declaring their loyalty, a bumper sticker, a jacket patch, and a racing guide

Everything old is new again, or did it ever leave us?  Either way now offered for consignment, a powerful R/T Widebody Scat Pack Challenger, (say that 3 times fast), from 2021 that screams badass with its throaty exhaust it puts out when the throttle is even mildly pushed.  A mere 3,070 miles, one owner, equipped with the Shaker package and all stock except for window tint, ceramic coat inside and out, an added Billet Technologies catch can and those groovy throwback rear window louvers.  Houndstooth cloth seats, 6-speed manual, the Widebody package, premium audio, and of course 485hp.  A real neck snapper and eye catcher with its retro design right out of the muscle car sweet spot of the early 1970's ahhhhhhhh!

Exterior
All menacing Pitch Black right down to its chin spoiler, grille and shaker equipped hood and even dark tinted windows lead the competition to quiver in fear.  The entire body, underhood, wheel wells etc have been finished with IGL Kenzo Graphic infused ceramic coat for great looks and long lasting protection.  The body lines reminisce about the Challengers of yore but yet have a modern aero twist.  HID headlights are about the only thing on this car that sticks out as obvious, the rest is pure stealth.  On back is a SRT spoiler and large rear dual exhaust existing below the neoprene rear integrated bumper with Luxe Concepts tinted tail lights.  Floating above all of this are retro-perfect MP Concepts rear window louvers that have been ceramic coated.  The tinted lenses make an appearance again on the side markers and dig those groovy throwback Scat Pack bee fender emblems.  20-inch Carbon Black wheels are what this machine rides on and you'll need all 20 inches of that rubber with that hp!

Interior
Black houndstooth cloth covers most surfaces and it's all looking famous.  Expertly molded and curved door panels sport some stitched leather, molded storage and an Alpine speaker mount on the door.  Inside power black cloth high back buckets with extra supporting bolsters, some houndstooth for the inserts and again the iconic bee make our acquaintance, and a 2 plus 2 bucket bench is in the back.  In the center is a console which uses molded black plastic and some satin finished faux aluminum for the top part.  It is newly angled towards the driver and gives the illusion that it is not straight between the seats, but breathe easily; it's just the offset adding to this illusion.  A futuristic spaceship styled dash has more gloss black edging and white and red faced instrumentation in front of the flat bottom steering wheel, leather covered and rally style.  A UConnect 8.4 AM/FM/CD/Sirius/Navi screen is in and sports 7 inches of technology interface offering up Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice activation, a 4G LTE hotspot, and backup camera to go along for the ride.  A manual shifter is in along with the Alpine stereo, heated seats, keyless entry and start and a whole host of conveniences that are found in this extra high performance Muscle Car.

Drivetrain
Very impressive to say the least, here we see more menacing power in the form of an EFI fed 392ci V8 Hemi capable of generating 485hp.  It has a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual transmission bolted to the back and way in the back is a limited slip 3.90 geared axle.

Undercarriage
All like new and rust free showing off with Widebody Competition suspension and adaptive dampening suspension, all of which being independent.  We also note all speed traction control, and electronic stability control along with Brembo 6 piston disc brakes up front and 4 piston discs in the rear, all power assisted.  Factory dual exhaust is on with a Magnaflow muffler set to let the crowd know you've arrived.

Drive-Ability
A beautiful creation and as I slipped in I had a smile on my face because I had an idea of what I was in for.  I'm not the kind of spin the tires guy, just more high-speed performance so I skipped the line-lock and launch control tests.  And on the test track this car gave it its all.  Major acceleration, rail like handling in different modes and all functioning conveniences and mode buttons on this car.  Sadly my crack decoder reminded me that with such low miles comes great responsibility, thus my drive was limited to 1 lap around the track.

Oh go ahead, go for it.  At a fraction of the price of some of the exotics, and having nearly the power to match them although they are way ahead in the handling department, they lack the timeless muscle lines the Challenger brings to the table.  Big power, low miles, ceramic coating and a fastidious single owner.  Join the Scat Pack and become part of the most feared automobiles to grace the stop light drags since the Hemi's of yore!
