1969 Chevrolet Camaro

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

In 1966 Chevrolet conceived a totally new platform car for 1967 to be named Camaro, from a slang French word meaning “friend.” Chevrolet was getting beat out of many sales with the bad publicity that came from the Corvair, as well as the popularity of the Mustang. The Camaro was deemed a “pony” car (meaning long front hood, and short rear deck, with power). This new car was offered in many platforms for the largest appeal to a wide audience, from basic to a race car, definitely escalated Chevrolet sales, and created a classic.

8 years ago, this consigner set out to build a virtually new Camaro for his son to enjoy. He spent hours disassembling the original car, picking up new parts and reconditioning what he could. This labor of love yielded the car shown in the pictures, and since his son was not interested in his father's efforts, the car was only driven 400 miles since this time. Needing garage space, this virtually new car can be someone's treasure, and it can be found right here at Classic Auto Mall.

Exterior
Starting from the pristine underside and working our way to the top, one can see urethane body mounts, and new rocker panels welded correctly I might add. Also new floor panels, new fenders inside and out, new wheel wells in pristine condition, and new quarter panels. As we move up we see new chrome brightwork and bumpers and even new seals throughout. Turquoise (light blue with a nice taste of green mixed in) is the only frown this car will get, as the appearance of overspray, orange peel and dirt, is seen within an otherwise great color combination. 2 wide racing stripes run from stern to bow and make a small trunk mounted spoiler look just boss.

Interior
Seating was virtually rebuilt using the original seat frames, new foam springs, and black vinyl covers. Horizontal tufted stitching in the center, and plain bolsters around are true to Camaro interior front buckets and back bench. On each side are pristine new door panels also in black, hold well preserved window cranks, door actuators, and locking mechanisms. A black dash, with correct badging stretches from door to door. A few additional gauges have been added so the driver can monitor the vitals as he scans from each gauge, to the rear-view mirror, and watches the competition get further behind. A Chevy steering wheel, and a rebuilt Hurst shifter sit within reach of the driver.

Drivetrain
Underneath the racing striped hood, in a very clean engine bay is a rebuilt stock 4 bolt main 350ci V8 with new Vortec heads. Inside consigner states that new double roller timing chain, new Edelbrock Performer-Plus cam and lifters, new rocker arms, new push rods, a new Edelbrock Aluminum intake, an SMI Quadrajet Carburetor, and a new MSD ignition. A new starter, alternator, water pump, and high volume oil pump were also installed during the redux. Seen as well in all its anodized glory is a rebuilt master cylinder, a remanufactured brake booster, which actuate rebuilt original brake calipers. Putting power from the mill is a rebuilt Muncie 4 speed and new clutch encased in a Lakewood Scatter shield, which drives power to 3.23 10 bolt rear. Noted are Herb Adams suspension and sway bars, quick ratio steering powered by a new power steering pump and hoses.

What do you get when you pick up a 1969 Camaro in rough condition, and begin to take it apart, ALL apart with the intention to ultimately have a new car when you are finished putting it back together? Well this 400 mile 1969 rebuilt refurbished example, which can literally be a daily driver. I would say in this case the meaning of the word Camaro will be very appropriate.
