2006 Hummer H3

2006 Hummer H3

The Hummer H3 is an off-road vehicle that was produced from 2005 to 2010 by General Motors.  The smallest model of the Hummer lineup, it was offered as a 5-door SUV or a 4-door pickup truck known as the H3T.  Unlike the larger H1 and H2 models, the H3 was not developed by AM General.  It was introduced for the 2006 model year, based on a modified GMT355 that underpinned the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon compact pickup trucks that were also built at GM's Shreveport Operations in Shreveport, Louisiana and the Port Elizabeth plant in South Africa.

For consignment, a smaller more manageable version of the Hummer showing as a Hummer H3 from 2006.  This is its first year of introduction, and shows nicely as a well cared for and maintained road or off road vehicle.  It has new tires, a new battery and sports several convenience options such as power steering, power windows, power locks and a power sunroof.  It also has some nifty roof lighting to hunt down prey at night.  A Jeep on steroids with the mystique of being a Hummer, (ya know, former military and takes no prisoners kinda vehicle!).

Exterior
A nice coat of Gray Bronze baths the exterior panels of this truck.  All gaps are well minded and as to the look, it takes from the Jeep but makes it look more like an armored 4x4 due to its smaller tinted windows, squared off smaller fenders, and wide black bumpers.  This truck has a light kit installed on the roof and some more black accenting is seen here as well, and it goes nicely with the Gray Bronze.  Heavy looking doors and a high stance with its squared off wheel wells allows this vehicle to go through water up to 27 inches deep @ 5MPH.  Black tubular running board/step ups are on either side and make entry just a bit easier.  On the back is a large tailgate with more tinted glass, and an exterior mounted spare.  Another large black bumper frames the bottom.  16-inch GM special to Hummer wheels are all around and these are covered in 265/75R15's all from the 19th week of 2021.

Interior
With its thick bulletproof look on the exterior, the interior takes on a softer look, made for the comfort one would expect on a high end Hummer.  The door panels are black molded plastic with molded armrests, power window and door locks, and a power mirror toggle.  Inside to the seats where we note front high back buckets covered in charcoal gray broadcloth for the bolsters and dark gray for the inserts with some white stitching throughout the inserts.  The driver's seat shows some slight wear.  In back is a full bench with a center jump seat that can double as an armrest and it utilizes the same pattern as the front buckets.  In the center of the buckets is a molded console also in gray . It has an armrest/storage bin, cupholders and the shifter.  This melts nicely into the center of the dash which sports an aluminum plate behind the large round climate controls and digital radio above.  Just above this is a lineup of buttons which is your 4x4 control mode center.  The dash in front of the driver is under a rectangular hood and has analog sweep gauges in the round with smaller fuel and temp gauges in the center.  A digital readout panel is in the center.  The factory steering wheel is fronting the dash.  Gray carpeting covers all the floors even in the back seating area.  Above a power sunroof can be noted.  The cargo bay area is lined with tough molded ribbed plastic and the 60/40 back seats can be folded down for more room for tactical gear.

Drivetrain
Under the vented hood sits a 3.5 liter 5 cylinder engine putting out 220hp.  It has EFI, and a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission.  Turning the tires are 4.10 geared axles.  Lots of plastic coverings and all very clean under here.

Undercarriage
A peppering of surface rust is noted and heavier variety is noted on the back mounting of the rear leaf springs and frame.  Some rubber bushings in this area appear dry rotted, and some of the heavier rust is noted on various areas underneath.  The truck uses independent torsion bars for the front suspension, and leaf springs for the rear.  Power disc brake casings show some heavier rust and are on all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
This military grade truck fired right up and off to the test track I went.  It ran smoothly, had smooth shifting and easy steering.  All functions were working at the time of my test drive with the exception of a pesky tire pressure light. Our consignor notes that this is caused by the rubber valve stems.

A neat little 4x4 that looks larger than life and exudes a high end bulletproof feel for the design, but is more at home on the suburban roads.  Nice exterior paint, slightly worn interior, and surface rust on the undercarriage.  All in all well maintained and ready to go to war when the sh*t comes down.
