1986 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible

1986 Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible

The Corniche draws its name from the experimental 1939 Corniche prototype. The name originally comes from the French word corniche, a coastal road, especially along the face of a cliff, most notably the Grande Corniche along the French Riviera above the principality of Monaco.

For consignment, a touch of class in very nice condition to roll down the back roads to your country estate in the form of a Rolls Royce Corniche convertible right out of 1986.  Getting up close and personal with this title verified 27,396 actual mile car will definitely impress you not only with its current condition, but just the quality of build it exudes.  Tactile surfaces in the interior are just plush to say the least with plenty of leather overstuffed, and beautiful burl wood shined to the maximum for the dash and other highlights.  The exterior is tuxedo black so you are tuned to go out for a magical evening and make an impression in well heeled style.

Exterior
The Spirit of Ecstasy resides atop an iconic chromed radiator surround that is also the Rolls Royce look if you will, featuring a solid triangular top and vertical ribs making their way to the bumper.  Dual round headlights with a shiny bezel behind both lights flank the grille, and rounded front quarters hem these into the front with their protuberant rounded front corners, topped by a turn signal light.  Below a black bumper frames the bottom, and has a touch of chrome at the edge which serves as a visual landing strip for the grille in front and wraps around the quarters in black.   A V shaped hood takes its lead from the shiny grille and works its way rearward to the window surround which is all in black with a shiny edge trimming in stainless steel.  The lines are very straight, gaps are nicely minded, and on the edges of the wheel wells and the rockers, more shiny stainless steel trimming adds contrast to the black paint which is excellently applied.  Also adding interest is a white thin dual stripe which follows the undulations of the body stampings from stem to stern.  On the rear trunk deck in the center is the new for '86 3rd brake light, more badging, and on either corner, an MG-esque vertical tail light.  Below, is another chrome tipped black bumper with dual exhaust peeking out the bottom.  A new padded canvas convertible top in light bisque tan protects the precious cargo underneath in inclement weather, and moves up and down with ease electrically.  A matching tonneau covering finishes off the hidden top when in the down position.  Rolls Royce badged chromed wheel coverings are in the centers of 235/70R15's which are new from the 34th week of 2022.

Interior
Creating a beautiful and comfortable interior environment we see plenty of leather, padded, tufted tucked and rolled and piped, and accented with English walnut lacquered burl.  The doors are mostly ivory with black piping on the edges and plenty of convenience options embedded within the ivory surround and made of chrome.  This follows through to the dash which utilizes plenty of the walnut burl, and padded ivory. The instruments are ergonomically arranged and easy to read, all in blackface with white lettering.  Overstuffed buckets are expertly stitched with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters and black piping.  The rear bench affords plenty of room and of the same high end materials as the front buckets so no expense spared here.  Some blue digital readouts are seen along with preset and memory set seat adjustments, upper and lower climate control dials, and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD digital radio.  Also within the doors is a liquor service with a factory decanter and crystal cut glasses, which are behind a sliding “hidden” door.  A shout to the trunk which has wonderful Wilton wool tan carpeting and is even padded on the underside of the lid.  Black Wilton wool carpeting is covering the floors.  All first class finishes in clean condition here.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a maze of wiring, hoses, and mechanical devices to power the car and run the conveniences.  The star of the show is obviously the 6.75 liter V8 with EFI and a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission.  3.07 gearing is reserved for the final drive axle.  Very clean in this intricately engineered bay.

Undercarriage
No rust, just well preserved undercoatings, solid framing, like new stock style exhaust.  4 wheel power disc braking, and independent front and rear suspension are noted in this rust free well preserved environment.

Drive-Ability
I always find it a pleasure to drive one of these high end Rolls Royces, and this one fired right up,and off to drive through town and through the McDonalds drive through to create the ultimate oxymoron for this beautiful car!  All functions were working beautifully, and talk about a head turner, even in sub 40's weather with the top down.  Although maybe they thought I was crazy and it was not the car!?

A fine, well preserved, and all buttoned example of the high end in automotive engineering and comfort.  Fine materials all round, straight steel and very tastefully done. Bragging just a bit, but certainly not in an obnoxious way.
