1973 Dodge W200 Pickup Adventurer

1973 Dodge W200 Pickup Adventurer

A new Adventurer trim package replaced the old Custom Sports Special; basically, it included a padded front seat with vinyl trim, (either full bench or buckets with console), and carpeting, plus other hallmarks such as extra chrome trim and courtesy lighting.  It was a crew cab or standard cab, designed to pull a camper or boat or 4x4's, one could pack their family in and go for an….ADVENTURE!

For consignment, a 1973 Dodge W200 Adventurer, which presents in lightly patined but solid condition, and lived in Colorado for 20 years.  A few items need to be addressed, but it sports original paint and a like new bed cap.

Exterior
This Power Wagon is bathed in two tone copper and white.  The upper half is copper, and the lower is white, save for the roof, which takes the baton for the white on the very top.  A bed cap is on and this uses the copper and white as well, and has tinted side slider windows. Some of the rubber gaskets around the windows are falling away, and one of the passenger side cap slider windows needs to be replaced.  A pressed aluminum grille has a single headlight on either side and a shiny bumper below.  Noted on the front is a black pusher add-on bumper and some fog lighting.  A “bird bath" style hood runs back to clear front glass, which has some big rig style roof running lighting.  Shiny mirrors hang off of either side, and you will be able to see what's behind no matter what you are pulling.  Fender flares are on all 4 corners, and these have vintage Turbine style wheels wrapped with big 9.50R16.5LT radials.   The bed liner is textured white paint and looking good.

Interior
Door panels are worn and have copper painted surrounds and molded cream plastic inserts.  These are soiled and are missing some of the chrome framing surrounds for the dirty armrest, wood panel for the window crank and door actuator.  Inside are bucket seats with a central buddy seat finished in a somewhat abstract style fall scene pattern of broadcloth inserts and cream vinyl bolsters stretched from door to door.  Some areas of wear on the broadcloth are seen with the foam showing through.  The dash is original, shows black padded topper, and some faux wood graining to house the instruments and a lower thin trimming piece.  All the rest is black and showing some wear.  A Grant GT rally steering wheel with a wood rim is fronting the dash.  The radio is missing and the dash has faded somewhat.  Gold carpeting covers the floors, and the 4x4 shift lever resides on the hump. The headliner is a textured square pattern board, painted cream.

Drivetrain
Plenty of patina and some corrosion are noted within the engine bay.  Inside is a 440ci V8 with a 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor.  On the back is an A727 Torqueflite transmission, and the rear pumpkin is a Dana 60, whereas the front is a Dana 40.  Noted, there is a severe leak from the transmission pan.

Undercarriage
Heavy surface rust is covering the underside on the frame and floor pans, as well as suspension parts, shocks and brake housings.  Newer brake pads, rotors and brake lines have been put on front, (1975 W200 version), for inspection.  At this time a front end alignment was performed,  The rear drum brakes checked fine.  Leaf spring suspension is all around and single stock exhaust is on.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up and off to the test track where this truck accelerated fine, and had good bias free braking.  The AC does not work, and the heater blower is also inoperable.  Also the rear slider window does not latch.

A fair example of this version from way back in 1973.  A recent inspection now passed, and some decent original copper over white paint, and the turbine wheels give it the early '70's look… Let's go!
