1985 Cadillac Eldorado
1985 Cadillac Eldorado
Cadillac was born from the ashes of the Henry Ford Company in 1902. Ford had gotten into a fight with his investors, and the financial backers asked Henry M. Leland to appraise the plant and equipment as they prepared for liquidation. Instead, Leland convinced them to keep the doors open and combine the latest Ford frame with a single-cylinder engine developed by Oldsmobile. The first Cadillac was introduced at the New York Auto Show in 1903, and it cost $850. One of these examples can be seen right here at Classic Auto Mall.
For consignment a survivor from the mid 1980's in the form of a Cadillac Eldorado. A few dents and dings, some rust, and fading, but an intact running example ready to comfortably whisk you down the blue highways of America.
Exterior
With a little rust showing in the front quarter near the rocker, and some faded spots, this exterior remains in fair condition bathed in its factory Metallic Light Blue. Trim is all attached and looking smart and mostly shiny. Plastic bumper fillers are a bit discolored, and the drivers front one is missing. A white vinyl top is seen and remains clean and looking good up top. Square and rectangle design rules with all sliced steel panels at various angles. Spoked wheel covers are seen on all 4 corners and are wrapped with thin white sidewall tires.
Interior
Swinging the massive doors, we see dark blue vinyl mixing with wood appliqué and dark blue carpet on the bottoms. All the power window, power lock and power mirror controls are in this door as well. The passengers will be treated to blue crushed velour tuck and roll large buckets up front, and a full rear bench stretching from B pillar to B pillar. Blue carpet floods the floors and is showing some wear on the driver's floor. Floating above in front is the square and rectangle designed wood appliqué dash front. This houses all the power amenities as well as a few gauges and some warning lights. The original steering wheel fronts this original dash and shows some corrosion on the outer rim of the wheel. The dark blue headliner is sagging and has some metal shiny straps to hold it up installed.
Drivetrain
The 4.1 Liter engine is a naturally aspirated, overhead valve, 8 cylinder that develops 135 bhp of power at 4400 rpm, and maximum torque of 271 at 2200 rpm. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust is noted on the frame and other various and sundry parts, but all remains structurally sound.
Drive-Ability
A surprisingly quick starter, and very smooth runner. All mechanicals are working fine, and this car offers up a smooth ride, and can cruise with the best of them.
Overall a good used car, has a few faults, but if you want a late model car that runs well, and has lots of convenience options you should look into this one. Plus, it's a Cadillac.
